Does anyone have any experience making crankbaits with metal lips? I have tried to make a few but haven't had any success. My biggest problem is lining up the line-tie to the lip to produce an decent swimming action that doesn't look like I'm dragging a board through the water. I'm using dowel rods with rounded ends and going to end up making multiple sizes if I can figure out how to make them.

Where should I place the line-tie in correlation to the lip to maximize the action/vibration of the crankbait? Where should my weighting be to achieve balance? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
