Has anybody thrown the new Shimano Compre 8-6 rod. I stopped at the store yesterday and put on a te401 reel and the combo does not feel balanced. I felt the tip was real heavy. I then tried a few other rods but did not get that feel. anybody feel the same way?

Not for certain...., but I believe the new re-designed ones are a little lighter. I too noticed the ones from just last year were sort of top heavy. I held the new ones at Milwaukee show and they seem much better in that regard. Compre's seemed nice for the price.

I owned several of the first model Compre rods and liked them a lot. I tried a couple from the 2nd series, and they were tip heavy IMO - even the 7'6" rod. I hear the 3rd series is out now, but haven't handled any of them. But I've heard they are still a bit tip heavy.

I gave up trying to find them in the Chicagoland area so I went and purchased the Abu Volatile 8-6. Went down to the river yesterday and tied on a few baits to see what how it felt and was very pleased how nice it casted. With my TE401 it had a good balance feel to it. I then changed to my 251 and Curado and it was even nicer feel. I ended up going back and buying another one to add to the arenal.
