Location: New Jersey | Just curious to know who uses either of these. Looked at line capacity and weight, and it seems like the 975 is the better choice of the two. Any feedback? |

Lexa 300 or 400
Shimano 400B or D
Tranx
Saltist
700TE
400TE

Location: New Jersey | Thanks Pikemaster. I'm actually putting something together comparing different reels by different manufacturers. I have Shimano, Abu, Daiwa, Okuma and even Quantum covered, and needed to know which of these is the more appropriate model for Penn. |

| I love the 975 and have 4. Have used mine all over the world and never had a problem. Only time i don't use them for trolling is when I use my Penn line counter reels. |

Location: oswego, il | I have a 955, 965 and a 975. The 965 is the size of a 6500c or a Calcutta 400. The 975 is comparable to a Calcutta 700 or a 7000. I use the 975 for big baits and double tens. |

| If I remember right The Penn 965 and 975 HAD THE LEAST AMOUNT OF LINE PICK UP than any of the Musky reels...These WERE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST. NOT BURNING ANYTHING WITH THESE REELS. THEY ARE WELL MADE AND HOLD UP WELL
965 Ratio: 4.7: 1- Line Retrieve: 19" per turn
975 Ratio :4.5: 1- Line Retrieve : 20"per turn |

Location: N.FIB | I have a penn 975 and love it for big baits, easier on your body because it pulls blades very easy, better than a lot of other reels I`ve used but not as fast as most other 10 reels. |

| Yep those lower gear ratio reels are nice and smooth and great for old guys like me.....Penn has made many very good reels for Century's now....They're still one of the Top Dogs in the Saltwater Big game reels......World Wide.... |
