| My fishin’ partner has finally talked me into fishing a tourney. I always told him that it wasn’t my style and that’s not what fishing is about for me, but his persistence paid off and we’re fishing the Muskies inc. tourney in the Hayward area October 5,6,7. I was reading the tournament rules and couldn’t help but chuckling. Rule number 13 states, “At the judges discretion, a polygraph test may be administered to any contestant and/or witness used on a signed tournament form”. Isn’t this silly? Have people actually had to take a lie detector test over fishing a tournament? How many times has this been done? Please share a story I find this interesting. |

| Believe it ....it happens! They have here what they call the Optimist Tournament, a 5 species deal the first weekend in May; has been going on at least 25 yrs. about 6 yrs. ago a guy won the smallmouth bass division + they gave him the test.....he flunked! His family was w/ him when he caught it + he had witnesses etc. but to NO avail. Screwed up if you ask me. He was as honest as the day is long yet got hoo-dood by a machine; seems to happen in all aspects of life. Anyway I guess w/ cash/major prizes on the line + the desire of some to alter results the "test" can be seen as a deterrent to pacify the concerns of those who hold these....[:0] |

| Usually this may occur when major cash is involved. There are many stories of cheating in all sorts of tournaments.
We have worked around this issue in our own Pewaukee Classic
through the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc. We award trophies only. Nobody would cheat for trophies. The best of all worlds is to come in fourth place so that you are high enough to be acknowledged but just low enough to not to get a trophy to dust from now on! LOL! |

| I think it is also there to help discourage any violations. I'm on the committee who runs the Butternut Lake Musky Tourney and it's on our regulations also, but we have not had to use it.
We have a non-transport tourney and many volunteer judges on the water who measure the caught fish and the judges are handpicked by the tournament director.
It's a good time![:)]
