| just picked one up,has anyone had a chance to throw this model 7.1? I was hoping id be ok for burning spinnerbaits an 8's possibly 9's? Just hoping I wont be braking gears trying to burn bigger blades. I did search on here but most were talking about the 5.1 an 6.3 got a great deal on ebay I couldn't pass up. Worst case I move it to the glider rod an use the 400d but with the line pick up I am hoping the reel will handle some of the bigger blades |

Location: Madison, WI | Which size 300 or 400 ? I had a 7.1:1 300 and liked it but burning blades bigger than 8's is alot of work. Not saying its impossible but I wouldn't planon doing it all day (I have and it was painful). The 400 I camt speak for but im sure it retrieves 9-up sized blades easier than the 300 size |

| How did your 7.1 in 300 do for smaller applications. I was looking at picking one up for top water and small spring stuff and was concerned that the 7.1 would struggle even with the small stuff. |

Location: Madison, WI | I threw everything with mine (mag rubber,10s, big gliders, etc) just to test it out and put it through the stresses and it handled it fine. Only downside was that it was alot of work to burn blades because its such a high hear ratio. It was "fast" but needed a better power handle and I bet just a slightly longer one would make it better. With smaller blades like 8 & 6 you can really smoke em with that reel. |
