I will be ordering a Throne Predator 9' x hvy this weekend and be putting on a Tranx reel .
I am a fly fishing guy what are the best 5-10 lures to start with I will be fishing in the boulder lake area if that makes a difference, I appreciate the suggestions as I am heading to the Madison show tomorrow and will be getting 5-6 of them for starters

- bucktail (double 10 or double 8, black/nickel)
- spinnerbait (single 10, black/nickel maybe some red or chart)
- suick (10" unweighted, firetiger)
- believer (10" straight, firetiger)
- hard head (middle sized, with weights, walleye) or mag bulldawg
- top raider (or other prop topwater, black)

With that set of lures you can cover basically any depth or weed cover, fast or slow, trolling or casting.

Let me get this straight. You are new to musky fishing? If that's correct how did you come to the conclusion you need to buy a 9'XH rod with a Tranx as a first time set-up? To offer a fly comparison that's a little like a new fly fishermen purchasing a 13' Spey rod. It can be done for sure but it makes that entry level a little on the rough side. The topic of your thread is also a little confusing. You've made a decision to purchase a rig before you have decided what lures to throw. If I may offer a suggestion you might want to consider a more general purpose rod/reel combo that can be used for a wide variety of lures. Go into that specialty stuff as you get more accustomed to the sport and knowing what types of lures work for you. Just my opinion but I see a lot of guys buying gear that they end up not using because they bought the "trendy" or specialty gear that they read about or saw on a TV show instead of things that are giving them a good foothold in the sport.

Double 10 bucktails - nickel/gold blades
Double 8 bucktails- nickel or gold blades
Rad Dog spinnerbait
Top raider/ Lee Lures Chopper
Lee Lures Fish Stick
8" Jake/ 10" Believer
Walleye colored glider - maybe a phantom

I could live with just these. Casting and trolling.
