Thinking of going to St. Clair in either July/Aug or Oct/Nov. We'll probably be doing mostly casting. How does the action stack up? Fall is obviously big fish time, but I've heard you're more likely to contact more fish in summer. Any thoughts?

Both times are good. If you want to cast get a guide is all I have to say!

Summer lets you spread out and the locations and techniques are endless. They really are. By fall things change and as the fish migrate they chase gizzard shad especially. Nasty weather is the norm in fall so you have to dodge that and the muddy water that results from the wind stirring up the lake. Hope this helps.

In the summer you have to put up with the drunken pleasure boaters on the Michigan side. Plenty of small ones willing to bite.
