Hey all. I did a search and read up on peoples thoughts on Compre rods. Seen the Larry Dahlberg video too. Just not seeing specific enough info so thought I'd ask... anyone using one of the 9' 2-piece Compre rods and if so how's it treating you?

I'm looking at them as a possible last resort for 2-piece/telescoping rod before I go for the forever ball and chain of a St. Croix big nasty (that I can't lock up and will have to take inside everyday/keep an eye on at restaurants, etc.). I have a fair amount of experience with Okuma and TI products so I'm mainly just curious how the Compre has performed for you guys.

Thanks,
Andy Swinton

...that ball and chain is worth it. Best rod ever IMO.
But if you want to check out shimano I'd wait to see what the new 2014 compres are like. They are being released this month (I think maybe even this weekend?) and from what little I've heard they are a huge improvement from the let downs that were the previous models. The old compres were pretty heavy, tip heavy, and had some issues with the 2-piece design.

My brother in-law has an 8'6" Compre 2 piece and at least once a day the top section separates from the bottom section during a cast.

I loved the 1st series Compre rods, but they stopped at 8'. The last series (the longer ones, several in 2 piece) were horrible, IMO. The post above, it fell apart, but I couldn't find any in the store that I could get apart! Not sure if this year is a newer series, but if not I'd avoid them. Sorry Shimano, I still love your reels and bike components!

Thanks guys, I've never been a big fan of the older Compre rods so I was iffy on the 2-piece. I love Shimano reels, think I'll pass on the rods. Big Nasty's are a sweet rod, always wanted one... just will be a mild inconvenience to store.

My buddy has had the 8'6" 2 peice and used it for 2 seasons and never had a mishap with it.
I would recommend it for the price. As long as you put it together like a MAN should have no
problem with it. Hear alot of complaints on them but ive used it alot fishing 3 full days a week
For 2 seasons just about and never once has it came apart. Definitely a good rod for the $ just
Make sure you really put it in there!

I fished w/ the 9' Compre EH 2-piece last season and really liked it. It is a nice rod for the money ($80). When casting all day... every once in awhile I just reach down & check the joint & give a little twist to reset the joint. Not a big deal....never had it
come flying apart. Became my favorite rod ....looking to get another one.
