I store my lures in Plano 3700 boxes. Despite allowing reasonable drying time before closing, I've had a few lures rust slightly. I'm going to drill some holes in the boxes for better air circulation and drying. For those of you who have done this, do you recommend drilling holes in the top, bottom, sides or where?

Good question

I would have to say I would want holes along the lower portion of the box, which could help drain your hair baits. On the other hand, having holes in the lid is great for circulation in hot conditions...the air can escape with the moisture and the hot air.

So...I would drill holes along the top edge of the box on the sides of the lid...not right on top so water can come right in. It would be harder for water to come in if the holes are on the sides rather than on top or directly on bottom.

I never have thought of doing this...but oh would it be nice to rid my box of the musty smell...what better way of doing so.

I hang all the lures I used that day around the outside of my box overnight to dry. It is a temptation for the kids but they dry well out in the open. I'd say drilling holes won't end the moisture problem especially on things like bucktails, they take forever to dry. Just buy new lures each time you go out and discard the ones that have gotten wet in my mailbox.

Hiya,
Get some Inhibitor Pro Chips. These are little cardboard-looking chips you break apart and drop in the box compartments. They absorb moisture and keep your stuff form rusting. They really are amazing little deals, and they do work extremely well.

Cheers,
