FYI as of 5PM yesterday Cave Run Lake is FLOODED....
Longbow Boat Dock is completly under water. You can't even see the port-a-pots. Actually the Marina is closed to the public and they have to use a pontoon boat to get from the walk way to the road. The waters is still rising. Garbage is floating everwhere. The water is almost to the mailbox for Long Bow Marina. The gas tanks will be next to get it. It rained after I was down there yesterday evening, now we have about 2 inches of snow on the ground and it is still snowing and we are to get 1-3 inches more today and tonight. Will try to keep you posted, if we don't loose power. Keep warm.

Daaaaaaang!

Wonder if the fishing will be any good in the lobby at the DisComfort Inn North ?

MHW, on a serious note I hope everyone remains safe during high tide. Mother nature will recover somehow, like she always does........................................RAZE

Taking a step back and to the side.....

I was talking with an insurance industry guy recently about the incredible rate hikes we're seeing in virtually every insuarnce product line. There are a number of forces at play. One particularly interesting observation he made was in regard to our changing weather patterns. He said that the rate of payout for weather-related claims is rising sharply due to the increasingly wild weather we're seeing on a global scale. He says we're seeing more extreemes - wilder storms; deeper freezes; longer and harsher droughts; more frequent and bigger floods; etc. In addition, we people continue to do dumb things, like build expensive homes or businesses where they are sure to eventually be caught in wildfires or floods. On a much larger scale, we're changing whole river systems (e.g., the Mississippi) such that we eliminate natural flood plains in rural areas leading to more damaging floods in urban areas. He says his industry has concluded that global warming due to the emmission of greenhouse gasses is the root cause for the increasingly variable weather. It was also his position that people who want proof that global warming is real should simply consider how much more they are paying for home/property insurance.

It was also interesting to read his demeanor - he's not worried one little bit about higher payouts for weather-related claims. He said to remain profitable the insurance industry will simply raise the rates people must pay. If some customers drop out the rest of us will just have to pay that much more. If we want to pay less, or at least reduce the rate of cost increase, we can individually reduce our personal contribution to greenhouse gas emmissions.

Hmmmmm.....good stuff to ponder.
