Hey everyone,

I'm planning on going to The big v this June and was wanting to hire a Muskie guide for a day. I have read previous threads on this topic and already have some ideas. I already called bob benson multiple times with it going to voicemail and he has never replied to my calls.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a guide that actually returns calls... I am already thinking about calling Luke Ronnestrand ASAP.

As well as a Muskie guide does anyone recommend a guide for walleye for future reference? Was also thinking about cliffs guide service.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Call Steve at Spring Bay Resort,... He grew up on the lake,...That should be enough...

But he is also an excellent Walleye Guide and is in Tune with the Muskies every day,....That's His Passion.....You will learn TONS of good stuff..
He will do Walleye in the Morning and Muskie in the afternoon with Great success....

Luke is the best no question
Bob is right up there also.

Luke is more than likely going to be booked, but call him anyways.
Keep trying for bob. Send me a PM and I can reach out to bob for ya.

kinda funny to me when people say the "best" guides there are a bunch of guides up there who are pretty tuned in Luke being one of them. but one will be on fire one day and the other the next .. they are all on same the program for the most part and all in tune with the lake. borvolsky, benson, hammernick, luke,

Three of us went up there around Oct. 20th this past year with Matt Siefert from Musky Mercenary. We moved 6 the first day plus 2 bites that got away, got one the next day, and moved 4 more the last half day. We also did an afternoon of Walleye fishing the final day and we had our limit within a short time. I know the numbers of muskies caught isn't great but most of the guides are in constant touch up there and the first day Luke was the only guide in the network to get a musky and it was just a small one, the next day the one I got was the only one, and we didn't hear of anyone putting one in the net our last day. As for returning phone calls, I've found that they can just be hard to get ahold of. My brother in-law called Luke and never got a call back.

Dami,
I think I ran into you guys and we chatted while on the water after you got that fish that day. I'm good buddies with Matt, He is an excellent guide as well and I would recommend him as well....especially in early in the year.

For a walleye guide, Joe Peniche is a good one from what I hear. He is my buddies neighbor up there...

What colors seem to be best on Vermilion? Anyone gotten good advice from guides up there? Looking to pick up a few baits before my summer trip. Feel free to send pm if prefered

Lots of good Muskie guides on Vermilion. You could get lucky and catch Mister Canada as he has made pit stops at the Big V more than once. For Walleye (in general) - I'd recommend Joseph Alfe.
