I would say give Skeeter boat center a call , but its to far north for you. call around there must be a Yamaha dealer around you .

you guys would be surprised at the lack of options down here, it's hard enough to find mechanics alone....

2 places I might suggest checking with are Water Werks in Naperville and Bedford Sales in Morris. You also have several options around the Lake Geneva area but the names escape me

Thanks guys I did some researching online and found out prices very by a few thousand dollars but it seams like the best deals are in the Southeast and don't want to take the boat that far.
Thanks

The new Merc 150 4 stroke is a pretty awesome motor, too. Advantage is you won't have to change your control rigging. Not sure on price comparison. Want me to get a price for you? This would be near Appleton, WI, maybe a little south.

I'd agree w Shep on this one, will cost you less money to put a merc on it than switch to a different brand... if you do switch, look at the Suzuki 150 as it has the longest warranty in biz at 6 yrs. I believe the Merc and Yami are 5.

Check out "boats.net" my brother put a new HPDI on his boat two summers ago. He couldn't find a Merc or Yamaha anywhere close. He ended up finding one on boats.net for a couple grand less. Purchased it there and had it shipped to a dealer in MN. Its a certified seller of motors so any Yamaha dealer has to rig it for you with all applicable warranties. With the cost savings for the motor, he was able to get it shipped and rigged for less than what they wanted for just the motor at the dealer. Just a thought.

Take a look at Even Keel Marine in Rockford, IL. They're a smaller, family run business, the family of which I've known for 42 years. John Tibbett is a good man and will treat you fairly. John's son, Bob, (my age) runs the service shop and is top notch with boat engines.

I've bought a couple of new boats from them over the years including the one I use today. In 2007 I traded out a Yam V-Max 150 2 stroke for a Yam 4 stroke 150 and have been very happy with the motor. It's a smooth runner, is good on gasoline, and hasn't had any mechanical trouble.

All Good info here, one thing on the Suzuki, get the 6 year Warranty you may never need it but you will feel a lot better knowing you can run for 6 years with not having worry about repairs also the Evinrude dealers work on Suzukies as Evinrude at one time sold Suzkies under the Evinrude Name. You may want to stay with the new Mercury 150, Find out if you can refit it to the gauges & controls of your older Merc. that will save you some $$$. I have a 2003 Suzuki 140hp. that I purchased new the spring of 2006 with a 6 Year Warranty from a Evinrude dealer in Minn. They sent it to the new Wisc. plant and the plant sent it to a Evinrude dealer here in Kentucky. the dealer here rigged it for me. Iv run my Suzuki hard for 7 year's with no trouble at all. Take a look at the Evinrude E-Tec 150's they are the lightest 150hp made at 427 actual and advertised weight. My pick the E-Tec 150. Good fishing to you Marv.

Darren … I re-powered with Shoeder's Marine in Rhinelander and had a fantastic experience. I'm longtime friends with the General Manager there and he is really helpful with what you are talking about. he found a dealer overstock for me and i got the 5 and drive Mercury plan but they also work with Yamaha power. not sure if you are ever up north but i'd suggest you at least give them a shot at your business and see what kind of deal you get. my guarantee to you is that you will get some great advice from people who will treat you truthfully.

shoot me a pm. if you want contact information …

Can't go wrong with a Yamaha, or Honda.
I wouldn't deal with Basa Marine. Prices too high, and had a bad experience there.

I said can. And there is more to the controls than just the cables. Obviously, the dealer installing would inspect and recommend whether and what actually needed to be replaced. Well, maybe not so obvious to some.

Just out of curiosity, have you looked at the 150 Honda or the new Merc 4 strokes. Yamaha's are excellent engines. Just wondering if you're looking at anything else. People seem to be raving about the new Merc 4 strokes and Hondas, well.... has anyone heard of one having problems? Granted, I'm biased as I have a Honda
