Just wondering if anyone saw the new Bucher glider in action at the pool demo at Chicago. Does it work well? Thought it is a bit heavy, in my experience the best gliders are between 3 to 4 ounces

It has a nice wide slow glide. Rides very high in the water column and pops the surface when you work it faster. Not a bad thing for shallow water fishing.

It glides with its head up. You have to work it very slow to keep it down. Might be ok for very shallow water use. Will not be buying one

My favorite and most productive glider is almost 12oz. It is also 12" long. I can't remember a time I fished a glider under 8oz. Lol.

The gliding raider looks unbalanced and rides with the head up as stated. That makes it "pop" out of the water. Not bad for shallow maybe, but not what I look for in gliders .

He showed it on his most recent tv episode and I myself wasn't convinced that it was a necessary addition/replacement to my Mantas and Hellhounds.

Then don't buy one. Simple.

I did, and I am betting I'll do well on the bait.

i'd delete that hard plastic dorsal, put 3 downsized hooks on it and put one closer to the head but not too close to fowl on the cast...but if it does sometimes thats ok....

Cloud you are right its not a replacement for those great baits.I remember early spring and late fall fishing when I threw a reef hawg and the other person in my boat threw a manta and I had all the action so he put a reef hawg on.The reef hawg has that up down all over the place action ,you described when you saw the glidin raider. There will be a time when that glider will work better than those other two baits.0723

This bait has its place, it does have a long glide. Slow sink wih a good hang time. Its larger diameter keeps a low sink rate. Has two big black nickel hooks. Easy to.work. If your fishing shallow water have a fish spotted or a throwback bait, this is a good bait for those situations and I am sure.others.

I'm gonna give it a try. I like that it stays up in the water column.

0723 you have a great point, and Steve I didn't intend to come off as blunt/negative as I did. I was merely trying to give my opinion of the Gliding Raider after seeing it in action on Joe Bucher's show.
I should mention that the underwater footage and angle that they showed of the lure wasn't the most flattering or indicative of the lure's performance/action. After basic search attempts I was unable to find a good pool demo video of how it really ran so Joe's episode is presently my only frame of reference.
Also I should mention that I may be a little bitter about this style of lure after I bought two lures last year(both shall remain unnamed) marketed as sub-surface wide gliding walk the dog lures, and try as I might I could barely get any side to side movement (good belly roll though).

Muskybites you sound like you're familiar with gliders, I'd suggest you identify the lure action you're looking for to add to your arsenal (if presently missing) or for an action you're looking to replicate but with a slight tweak to the lure such as profile or running depth. If your not yet sure of a lure (like I am of the Gliding Raider) hold out until there's better pool demo video or until you see it in action in real life. (It seems like a no-brainer rule of thumb, but I make the mistake every year)
Just as 0723 pointed out, I don't doubt that there will be times next season when I'm fishing where this lure may be the right and most productive tool for the job, but to give you my honest opinion (and in consideration of everything stated above) I have a hard time visualizing/placing a scenario where I'd throw it confidently over my present go-to sub-surface walk the dog lures which are my Mantas, Hellhounds, Warlocks, and special rigged Red October Tubes (all of which I offer up as possible alternatives to the Gliding Raider to explore and consider for this upcoming season).
Be open to new things and suggestion, but take everything with a grain of salt.

To each his own but good luck nonetheless,

-C7

yeah or at least one closer to the head.
