Hey Guys...... I know many of you love watching good Muskie Shows in the off season, Just wanted to give you a head up about a show I was fortunate to be able to film with Pete Maina and Dustin Carlson for the Next Bite last fall... The shows Topic is about fishing lakes with deep weed lines 18 to 25ft of water using soft plastics.. It will be a very informative show and it will be airing this coming Tuesday on NBC Sports at 1pm EST..... I have not seen the show yet but I heard it is really good so set those DVR's and I hope you like it...

Awesome show Dave! Looked like most fish came off bucktails. The only thing I think it lacked was how were you working the baits? Deep and over the weeds, or higher in the water column? If deep, can you share any secrets on how to get bucktails deep?

You slow roll them like you are night fishing, just fast enough to keep the blades spinning, if you reel them that slow you can get them down 10 to 15 ft on a bomb cast...Personally on deep weed line lakes burning bucktails is highly overrated in my experience..

Dave, I'm curious about your "highly overrated" statement...I fish deep weedline lakes in MN and we have put lots of big fish in the net burning bucktails... of course certain minutes/hours/days they want it slow rolled but lots of other times speed is the trigger... just wondering about that statement..last winters show w Pete you guys were reeling them pretty fast and caught some big fish on bucktails on deep weedlines.... have you caught more fish slow rolling vs speed on those deep weedline lakes?

Hey Brad......On the particular lake that we were fishing for this show, I have had some absolutely amazing days fishing deep weed line in over 20 ft of water slow rolling blades even late into the season Oct even Nov....Actually my best day on that lake we ended up catching 9 fish on a trip all slow rolling...Of course burning works too when the fish are up high in the water column but I think that is all you hear now days is speed, speed, speed, when slower tactics can be sometimes over looked..
I know you are one hell of stick and I am sure you mix it up as much or more then most angler's and have experienced mood changes that the fish can sometimes have.. But actually even the year before on that other shoot, That fat 53 I caught on the pink buck was caught slow rolling..

Couple questions, on these deep weed line lakes when the sun starts to go down lower on the horizon, do you find the fish moving up onto the breaks or flats to eat, or are they pretty much still eating deep down near the weeds, or are they coming up in the water column and eating over the basin? Are these fish staying deep because of the ciscos in the system, do they ever come shallow other then spring and fall? Different then the lakes I'm use to, but much much larger fish. Thanks
