Can anyone give me some info on Moen Lake in Rhinelander? Going up there on vacation this summer and was wondering if there was any good muskie fishing on the chain? Was told this is a 5 lake chain?

Thanks for your help!

The Moen Chain is a 5 lake chain that supports and excellent Muskie, Smallmouth bass, Walleye, and panfish fishery. It is dark water, so shallow weeds and rock structure are key. Not only is it good water, it is only a few miles from my place. If you are going to be up here, maybe we can spend an evening on the water!

Hey mavmusky, Moens Chain is a great body of water to fish. Good numbers and good size. The last 2 years running the big fish for our Tuesday night musky league came out of the Moens Chain.

Like Steve said it is a dark body of water, however, dark is an understatement. I was trying to net a big fish for Mike Roberts and he said "take her", the problem was I couldn't see her. From where he was standing he could see the fish in the water just fine, but from where I was I couln't even make out a shadow! That is dark, it looks just like a cup of coffee. Very shallow, lots of weeds and several dangerous rock piles. Good luck and God bless.

I liked the Moen Chain when I went there with John Stellflue of Oneida Esox Guide Service. I caught a very nice 38"er that ended a big dry spell for me last June.

I think the biggest secret to fishing the Moen Chain is to bring every bait you own, clutter the boat, then use one of your buddies bucktails to catch a fish, works every time.

hahahahha thx Shepster, hey can I have that Boo TAil if yer not gonna use it?????

Ah the Moens chain.... has it's moments like any body of water, dark water and after the winter we've had probably really skinny water as well, has some really nice fish in it, Excellent topwater everywhere!! Take the trek up to 5th and work your way back, do watch out for some rocks and stumps! Email me for some surefire spots!! Dave

Hey the Moen Chain was the first place I ever fished seriously for musky! In June 2002, I fished the chain hard for three days and not even a follow. I was dejected and about to give up on the last day when my brother who had caught several small (25-30inches) fish convinced me to go out one last time so we boated out to the overpass/underpass between third and fourth lake and there (in the channel on the third lake side) I caught my first musky and it was legal, too at 40"! That one fish made the trip! An orange F-18 did the trick though I believe that the orange/black and chart/black bucktails are the "go to" lures for a lot of folks on the Moen Chain. The water is the darkest (sometimes scariest) looking water I have ever seen.

Good Luck!

The Moens Chain, that brings back memories, I fished in the late seventies and early eighties. As mentioned before chain is shallow, deepest spots are usually 14 to sixteen feet. Most of the water is under 11 ft. there is a current going through the chain. The chain is good for numbers. Al

My family has had a cabin on 4th lake since 1939 there are some nice muskies in that chain I prefer 4th and 5th mostly because that is what i know and they seem so far away from the rest of the chain one easy suggestion Hawg Wobbler on either side of the river inlet into 4th lake good luck!
