I've been using Power Pro for 4 years. In my opinion, it's the best line out there. Casts well, doesn't bury in the spool, extremely tough, and I'm not bothered by water retention.

I use 50# TUF and my hands stay pretty dry. It is a much tighter weave, in my opinion, than the 80# TUF and seems to pick up much less water. If you don't want to scale down in weight, Power Pro is a good option for you too.

I agree with Jason. I also use the Tuffline 50# and 80#. The 80# does retain a lot more water than the 50#. In fact the 50# is similar to the Power Pro for water repellant.

The newer Tuff XP seems to me to be the driest of all the super braids that I have tried. I have heard that Cortlands Spectron is also very dry with little water retention but I have not tried it personally.

I've been using 80# Power Pro for the last 2 years without any problems. Excellent water repellency, low water absorption, low stretch, good abrasion resistance, and it doesn't bury in the spool. I have also been searching for a line that leaves my hands dry on a cold November day. This is what I have found. There is no "dry" line. Every line will get you wet. All you can do is find the one that repells the most water and leaves you the driest. 80# Power Pro does the trick for me.

Keep your hooks sharp.

I'm running most of my rods with Tuff Plus and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It doesn't hold any water to speak of.

Lots of 80 pounder out there. I hope I didn't goof. I just spooled up 4 reels with 50 lb power pro. Should I have bought 80?? If it makes any difference, I'm not using monster poles so the action will absorb some of the shock. Also does the 80 lb power pro cast as well as the 50? Help you guys, before the season starts. I'll buy more if strongly recomended. Thanks -dave

I am increasing this year from 50# Power Pro on my outfits to 80# Power Pro exclusivey. The reason being, I mainly throw jerkbaits and with the cost of Amma Bama's, Hughes Rivers, etc., I want everything in my favour in I figure I will get longer/stronger knot life ( I usually retie after two hours of casting ). I have never had any problem with Power Pro and consider it the best ( I have used most of the others and found them "wetter" than Power Pro).
Also, in November last year I landed a 46 pound muskie on the 50# line and that is a little too close for comfort!!

Now I don't know what to do!?! I got no reply about Spiderwire's Original Braid. Saw it at Wal-Mart. Jim Saric had it on his Morrum at the Chicago show. He hasn't replied about this line. IGFA says the max pound line is 80 lb test when applying for the new world record muskellunge. You have to send in a piece of your line, for them to verify it. I will stop at 80 test, whatever I choose. Thanks to all!!!

I've only been in this game for two seasons but...

The only line I've ever used was Berkley's 80lb(?) Whiplash and I've never lost a lure or a fish due to line failure. And I don't get any wetter from it than the momo I use for other types of fishing (Is that good or bad?).

How come I never hear about anybody using Whiplash? Have I been ignorantly missing out on significantly better lines or does Whiplash measure up pretty well with Power Pro and the others?

3yrs with PowerPro and 0 problems. I love it compared to other so-called super braids onthe market. I have 2 rigs with 80# a one with 50# for smaller bucktails and cranks. My fishin' partner used Whiplash for a while and it got fuzzy pretty quick. I don't know if it was more a visual thing or if the line was actually being comprimised. But I'm planning on sticking with the 80# Pro.

The stores around here carry PowerPro up to 50 test. I'll have to send out for the 80 and patiently wait for it to arrive. Do you think 300 yards of 80 Tuff makes for good kite string?

I like the 50lb. Power Pro, and use it for rockfish(salt & freshwater) and other saltwater species like bluefish and no probs at all. Some surfsters use the 50lb. and heave 4-6 ozs w/ it w/ no probs also. The P.Pro has no probs. w/ big cobia or drum, which sometimes weigh 40lbs. plus, and they fight like the dingies; hard runs that you won't encounter in freshwater. If you aren't casting great distances w/ the 50lb. and a bunch of weight on it, you should be ok I'd think. Take a 3-4 oz. weight to an open area(field) and sling it, using a rod for that amount of weight and check it out. That will help give you an idea and give you some peace of mind when you use it.

I now only use 80# powerpro and 65# is a bit dryer but overall the powerpro is the dryest of the superlines.

I have some 150yd spools here for the Pittsburg show, I can ship you a spool of ether 65# or 80# or 100# even at retail price and ship it to you for free.

I would have to say Whiplash was my favorite. I liked the 100# whiplash the best but havent found any around since they discontinued it. It seemed the strongest and thinnest.

I did buy 5 spools of the whiplash 80# line on sale though. Im either going to go with PowerPro or Spiderwire Stealth in the future.
