| I suggest you pick up one of the Tackle Industries 6' youth rods. Only pole made for kids on the market. Just talked with James at the Chicago show yesterday and he had them on special at the show. Great looking rods. | |

| If you're looking for a 6' casting rod (and you're sure you want to have a 6 year old using a baitcaster) then your only option to find a St. Croix in that size is the usual flea market, garage sale, online sales and auctions method. Frankly for that age of kid I'd consider doing something like the Premier 6' MH spinning rod. That handles lures to just under 1 oz. He can toss spinnerbaits, Rizzo Wizz, Mepps, Rapalas, smaller topwaters etc. with that rig. Throwing those kind of lures he'll get some action from pike, bass, etc. and more likely to keep interest between musky action. That's just my thoughts as an old guy who's raised three boys myself and now two grandchildren getting to that age. All love musky fishing but I eased them into it rather than throwing them into the deep end of the pool right away. Hope that helps. | |
