I'd place the best water temp at 65 degrees. Really hard to tell when that happens on any body of water...lots of variables. |

Location: Alsip, IL | last year locals told me I got up to my cottage to early because of the "late spring" water temps were high 50's low 60's on some of the darker bodies. some lakes were tough but being mobile paid off. In five days got 9 muskies 45 being the biggest and some big large and smallmouth bass, along with a nice 38" pike (and an easy 100 little snakes). Had it not been for my girlfriend being new to wading on slick rocks I could have had the best trout day of my life. Only made it a quarter mile up river and she fell 3 times, but man we were killin em. I wouldn't worry so much about temps the spring is a good time for multispecies fishing. |

Hard to predict actual mayfly hatch, depends a lot on ice out and spring/early summer weather. You would be lucky to pick a week now and get the results you are looking for... Last couple years were total opposites. I would shoot for mid to late June if I were looking more for muskies on Leech with July being better yet. |

I suppose you could round to 72, but you're probably sacrificing one bluegill and one bass. |

Location: Walker, MN | It seems to me that there are several hatches of "mayfly like" insects on Leech. Early on there are the species about 5/8" long, not sure of the latin name (corydalidae?) but we always called them fish flies. The big Hexagenia hatch usualy occurs when the water temps reach 65 degrees or so. Fish can certainly be caught during the Hex hatch though. Leech is like 10 lakes in one with different Muskies keying in on different food sources simultaneously. Since you said multi-species, walleye fishing is usually red hot from 58-68 degrees.
