Currently I'm having a 9' XH Predator built that will replace my 2 current rods, an 8' H and 8'6"XXH. As this will be my only setup I'm looking to upgrade from the 400 B and Saltist that I'm currently using. I don't really work gliders as I have a hard time getting them to walk, but I'll be throwing everything else.

In regards to the 400 D, how do those of you who have used it like or dislike the disengaging levelwind? If you previously used a none disengaging levelwind how was the transition? Also, at 27" per turn I realize it is on the slow end for line pickup when working dawgs, but will it be too slow?

In regards to the NACL, I'm specifically looking at the 5.4 as I want to make it easier to throw 13's and 10's, otherwise I'd go with the HS model. At 26" per turn I understand it's on the slower end, but will it be too slow for working dawgs?

I've thought about the Tranx as it would give me size and power, but the size concerns me and having a power handle would make the 1-2 times I do throw gliders troublesome.

I wanted to buy the Tranx so bad but after holding it its way to huge for me, round reels arent right either but the NaCl 50s are perfect in the palm. I bought two HS and they have been fine for 10s and rubber IMO. With that said I want to buy a 5.4 gear set for one after reading on here about how much easier it is for 10s and larger blades.

Keep in mind I have 2 NaCls for just over the cost of one Tranx and the tranx is too big for me in the first place.

I run a 400CTE (line pick-up of 25") and haven't had an issue with it when throwing rubber. This is not to say I haven't lost a fish or failed to make an effective hookset. I would, however, attribute these near misses to rod and/or boat position at the time of the bite rather than the amount of slack in my line. That being said, I will be trying a Revo 60HS for rubber in 2014.

I have 400D each one of my set up's is for a certain bait. what I don't like a bought the 400D is you need a small screwdriver to take it a part to change the weights for back lash .pain in the butt but now that I have it set up I like it. I am a small guy small hands but I for one love the Tranx I have the PG and HG .I have the PG on a 9 foot Predator heavy, HG is on a 9'8" Predator xx heavy . I used my 2 Tranx set ups 80% of the time last year . I have a Tranx Pg new in the box I wanted to sell it but im not going to give it away so im going to buy another Predator X heavy this spring . what would be best if you could go to a pool side demo and try some different reels and find one that works for you. I like the Tranx others say there too big its all in how you hold your set up. just my 2 cents

Do you palm your Tranx or hold the foregrip?

I hold the side of the reel so palm. only time I use the fore grip is when I have the fish to the boat rod in one hand net in the other .

I would go for a Tranx i love both of mine, and if i could have only one reel, the Tranx would be it.
(Even thought i'm normally a lefty)
I palm the reel, and i'm a small guy, it feels weird at first, but not for long, keep in mind that i'm normally a 100% lefty.

I like a HS reel for big rubber and a medium speed reels 25-28" per revolution for big blades. I can't imagine using the same reel for both...but then again, I don't own a tranx.

Know of any places around the MN Metro area to do this?

How does the tranx compare in size to to Saltist 20? I would imagine its clearly longer from front to back what about from top to bottom?
