Anyone on here get a chance to handle any of the new shimano rods? Looks like they completely re-vamped them (finally) and added a convergence musky rod line as well. The raitings for the rods are pretty odd and I am interested to hear additional info from anyone who may have demoed or handled them.

Shimano brought some prototype rods in for us to check out at the Musky Shop and give opinions. We made some suggestions that they took back to consider. I don't remember exactly but it seemed that we made some suggestions to them about lure ratings. Not sure what they ended up with. All things considered it appears that they have come up with a nice series of rods. Not nearly as soft action as the older Compre rods were and the price points should be attractive to buyers who are looking in under $200.00 range.

They look good on paper, I know they have the specs (no pics) in the new Musky Shop catalog.

they are mass-producing a 9'6 XH tele rod, and are producing several other 8'6-9'0 tele and 1 piece rods. But the ratings are odd...the 8'6 MH convergence is rated 1-12 oz. while the 8'6 XH convergence is rated 3-12 oz. The 8'6 MH compre is rated 3-9 oz and the XH is only rated for a few oz. more. I wonder how beefy these MH rods actually are?

I would keep in mind that one manufacturer's power rating is different than another's. (I do not put as much weight on this stat as I used to. For me it is all about how the blank handles.) I would wait to handle one and then use your judgement.
