| When making solid wire leaders, I cut the excess wire after making the wraps with stanley cutters. I always end up with a sharp end on the wire which concerns me. I don't want my line to get caught in this and cut it. Does anyone have any suggestions on different cutters that make a nicer end or do you use something like a dremel to smooth it down? |

Location: central Wisconsin | Grab the tag end with the pliers and twist it back and forth till it breaks, leaves a clean edge. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | As said above break the tag end off by twisting it perpendicular to the wraps and back again. Usually it breaks when you get it 180 degrees from where you finished your wrap. Your wraps will have no sharp edges and there is no need for heat shrink or a file if done properly. |

Location: 31 | Ya, the twist is easy and works almost every time if you spin it as said. If your fishing line wraps around your leader by the swivel it can still nick the line (especially using light stuff), so I put a little nail polish on that wrap just to be on the safe side. |

| I usually just "score" the wire with my side cutters and then do the twist and break thing. It will break a little quicker than just twisting and the results are good. |

Location: Birchwood, WI. | I use a bench top grinding wheel to smooth out the sharp edge. I have a dremel tool also, never used it on the leaders, but it should work, good idea... |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I bend out 90 deg to the leader and clamp on a small pair of vice grips and twist leaves no sharp tag |

Location: Thief River Falls MN | Ditto what Horsehunter said, clamp the vise grip as close to the wraps and as tight as you can close it then twist. breaks nicely with no sharp end. Works with wire up to .064" too |
