So just trying to clarify. Is a standard treble tied to a fluoro leader legal? Is it frowned upon to not use a quick strike style rig to try and prevent the fish from swallowing the treble?

How do you all prefer to rig your larger shiners or suckers through the ice?

Yes, its illegal in MN to use a plain treble hook. It has to have some sort of attractant on it, like a blade or something. Mostly, people use quickstrike rigs which are legal. Bigtooth Tackle makes very good ones and now have a new one called the zero rig. Check them out!

I have a line of tip-up rigs I've been making since I was a young fellow. I prefer a single rig when possible and hook up just as well as doubles. As far as I know, now in mn you can use plain treble as long as it doesn't exceed 9 inches but still prefer to add the blades. I am waiting to hear back from the MN DNR on some other rig styles too to clarify what is good and what is not.

here's a few I do... "Single slayer Rig" ," Twice As Nice Rig" and my new "Cheer Leader Rig". I do them in 80 lb. Fluoro and 30 lb. titanium aka "forever rigs". I love single for shiners and suckers up to 9" or so .. anything bigger I go double. Even w/ a single and the flag up for awhile, when you hook the bait in the middle toward the dorsal most of them get hooked in the corner of the lip
