| They work well while under power... Sitting still they aren't any good. Knowing how to adjust the settings properly is critical. It reads a swath of the bottom rather than a cone, you just have to keep that in mind while interpreting what you're seeing on the screen. I'm used to mine by now, but still prefer a classic unit. |

X2- I bought one for the front of my boat, and realized it's not a good fit. You have to be moving pretty good, 1mph+, for it to work well. I moved it to the back of the boat (tiller) and have been happy with it. |

Location: WI | Spend a little more and get the elite 7 hdi. It has a better downscan system that is awesome at any speed up to about 25mph. And the overlay is awesome too. |

X2, wish I had done just this. Get the cheaper elite7hdi, the more expensive one just has a different transducer for water over like 400ft... Don't need it. |

| Uhhh, I'm gonna have to go with it since I bought it back in December. I'm going to use it at the console of my boat. I found a clearance price of $319.00 for the unit. I've never used anything but a twelve year old cheapo unit so I'm assuming this has to be much better than what I am used to. Thanks for the info and I will expect to have to mess with the settings a bit.

Location: WI | You can network elite 7s. I have two linked and they are also network compatible to an extent to hds units. |

Location: ON | Right. Can't network the 5 unless I'm missing something. Yes to the 7's and a bigger screen for not too much more. That what I'm looking at now.
