Location: Warren, Pa | I've been trying to get the girlfriend into musky fishing. She can't use a baitcaster no matter how hard she has tried. So I want to get her a spinning combo so she can stick to what she can do. Does anyone have suggestion on what would be good and handle smaller musky baits? |

| I bought my Nieces Ugly Stickes both medium and heavy action SPL1100 and Quantum KVD Signature 40 reels and both brought in Muskies 43", 35" and 29" all on smaller musky crankbaits. Much nicer to learn a baitcaster if possible. |

My sister got this reel for medium sized catfishing. It's built like a tank and is as smooth as my Pflueger Supreme XT plus it has like 25 lbs of drag. I don't know how it'd work for musky lures but other bigger spinning reels like Cat Maxx are heavy as hell. This is kind of an in between of a light smooth smaller bass, walleye reel and a monster tank catfish reel. I'm sure there are other brands that have good ones but I was impressed with guy. |

Location: ON | I would look at inshore saltwater combos. Always good deals on them. Penn Battle or similar would work great.
I have had on Tarpon 50-100+lbs on a Shimano Terramar with 50lbs PP and it worked just fine. Would definately whoop a musky. Forget the reel exactly but it was a Penn, maybe not a battle, but the Battle combos are always around $100 and look just perfect.
Want to get my dad one for musky. He can't throw the big baits. I keep his lures to 2oz or less. |

Location: Madison, WI | Shimano makes a 7' spinning rod in their Compre Muskie series. Rated 3/4oz-2oz. Any Shimano 2500 size reel should be fine spooled with 30lb braid.
If you are near Madison, WI, I would be more than happy to let you take a look at this combo first hand to get an idea of what it's like. |
