East end is iced over, west end is still open. Bring sand or kitty litter for icy ramps.

Ice is getting safe to fish areas on the East end of Pewaukee. West end is mostly still open with the West end public launch the only option to get on the water. Thanks to a few pier and boat lift removal services that keep busting out ice from the launch.
The reports I have got from friends and clients is that getting on the lake has been very hard with the boat. The air temps and wind makes boat fishing brutal.
The ice reports are up to 4-inches in the bays in the east end. Please do not fish alone and take safety precautions when on the water or ice now.

Remember if you get in a bad situation you will have people trying to help you and YOU will be the reason they are now in a dangerous situation.

Be safe and use your head when enjoying the lakes during these conditions.

Pewaukee Lake never freezes all at once. Please keep up with ice conditions or talk with people who know the conditions. I try and keep Smokey's informed on dangerous areas and the safe areas. Stop by Smokey's before you go on the lake and get the latest reports.
Be safe and enjoy Pewaukee Lake!!!

I was thinking about getting out Saturday for one last trip. Should I just winterize the boat? Do you think it would be safe? Do I have a legit shot at a sucked fish? I don't usually fish this late but wanted to get some advise.

Winterize the boat. Both Smokeys launches are all locked up. No hope to get out.
SportsDoc is all locked up, no hope to get out.
West end launch had ice, thick ice, about 70 yards out this morning. About 6 rigs were waiting in line to try to break trail. Four guys got out that I saw and they were around the condos looking for open water and running their engines to break up ice so they could fish.

Lake looked to be about 85% iced over. East end, very locked. Narrows was frozen solid this morning, as was most of the west end, but it looked like skim ice. Saw a little open water by west end island and by condos where the boats were headed.

I wanted to get out badly, but am not putting my Ranger through that. And neither was another Ranger owner who decided to not launch after seeing what needed to be done to fish. The boats that got out were aluminum.

The fat lady is singing. I was out in the narrows checking ice today. Almost 3-inches but soft ice due to 38 degrees today. I'm not fishing it tonight. Way too freaky on soft thin ice. Getting older and smarter.

Most of the east end is ok. It froze in two section.

Safest ice far east end. Narrows has multiple cracks and a heave starting on southeast end of narrows. Western basin has open areas all over. A big wind can open it back up with upper thirtys highs this week.

Be safe. Ice is not great anywhere yet.

This next weekend its going to get real cold. It will be good after that.

Tip-Up!!!!

After that warm up we had, the west end launch is good to go. I know that it is colder now, but on Thursday morning, the west end was wide open all the way to the narrows. That will probably change with the cold snap, though.
