Location: Lake Vermillion | Looking at purchasing a new rod and reel combo sometime this winter and interested in what people have to say about what their personal favorite combos are -- or what your ideal rod and reel combo would be.

| +2 on the big nasty. Pair it with a TE or toro and you can throw just about anything with it. |

| What are you looking to fish with?
9' one piece XH
Tranx PG. It can throw as light as my Curado 300E and nothing handles hard-pulling baits like it does. Nothing. And I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the handle engaging the reel mid-cast. |

Location: plant earth | Sling blade and a conquest 400. Or 400te or 400d with a pikemaster bearing upgrade and pimp out. That reel is incredible. Sling blade good all around rod but not for big heavy baits.

| Are you looking to buy a combo from the store? Or trying to pick a rod and reel? You need to decide what type of bait/lures you like and pick a rod and reel that works with that. |

Location: davis,IL | While everybody has their favorites, the truth is....what are you looking for? An all around setup? Something for big blades?... Big rubber?....Topwater? I personally run 4 rods... 1 all around & 3 that I have setup for specific baits. For rods I'm using 8" & 8.5 Tica"s... reels... 400te & toro's... my topwater is a gander 6.9' with an old 6600c4. Each rod does what I want it to do.... the all around is the 8' with a toro 5.4:1. It will do basically everything and see's action on all fronts. Most of the time it has a throwback bait on it so I can drop my bait specific rod and grab it quick and make my pitchback. |

| In my opinion St.Croix rods are the way to go. As for a reel that is hard to say, I use the Abu Nacl and I really like it, but I also use Calcutta's too and really enjoy them. So many reels to choose from it is all just personal preference on what is the best reel. |

| I can throw pretty much anything from showgirls to pounders with a XH Predator and Trinidad 14a..
For topwaters I do like a little softer rod though and use a sling blade with a calcutta d on it.. |

| My LT Big Dawg is my go to rod with a Tranx HG.
Got LT "the jerk" On the way, and plan to use a Calcutta D, mainly for gliders, Suicks, and other smaller stuff.
Now i use a MI 8 foot 10oz rod, with the Calcutta D, which is also my favorite rod for jigging Bondys, for Bondys i use a Avet SX raptor, with a "indicater" line |

Location: Minnesota | Its been said before. It comes down to how you wan to fish. I have 8 different set ups each one is for a specific bait. last year I used 2 set ups most of the time number 1 is a 9 foot 8inch Predator heavy with a Tranx PG the other a 9 foot Predator XX Heavy with a Tranx HG these 2 set up I can through any bait in my boat. that being said I have a 6 footer I like for my walk the dog baits . no one can tell you the way you like to fish. want a nice set up find a rod builder ( I have all Thorne Bros rods ) tell them what you want the rod for and let them build you a rod then put a good reel on it and go fish. as for reels I like shimano. Im single so when I buy something I buy the best. not saying cheap is junk. but buy what you can afford and have fun fishing. |

| I've owned the expensive rods for years. BUT my goto rods now are Tackle Industries. My most versatile rod is a TI XH 9 with split grip sporting a TE400 with power handle. Best setup I have ever used. |

I will echo that the rod does handle pounders...very well. I was surprised how well the rod launched a monster medussa when I was last out |
