I've had a Lac Seul Perch Manta for about 4 years now that has netted me 7 muskies and had at least that many more roll under it and over it not getting any hooks. It's one of my 5 or 6 favorite baits. Needless to say due to muskie teeth and hook rash that has dug 1/4" deep grooves into her she is looking pretty bad. Thats not the issue though. The hooks keep getting caught in the grooves and then the bait stops running properly.

I ordered new ones in standard size and the hang10 and they arrived today. They are not the same bait. The new ones are more of a standard yellow perch color and the one I have from 4 years ago is much more gold. Did they really change colors?

P.S. I've been filling in the hook rash areas with sharpies for a year now. They work but the hook fowling sucks.

Don't think it will matter. My best manta is a chart/tiger combo only because I can see it coming in easily & work that much better.

If it ain't broke, don't fix/replace it. Got a replacement hawg wobbler for an old beat up one 2 years ago that still hasn't been casted (even though I can only use the old one for about 45min-1hr before it soaks up too much water).

The only reason I was replacing the old one is the fact the the hooks keep getting caught in the rash grooves and then it stops gliding right. Happens every 3rd cast or so. Drives me nuts. I'm sending the new ones back. Staying with the old one.

mike , very carefully fill the grooves with 5 min epoxy after it has started to set just a little, let dry over night and carefully sand the epoxy down and you should be good to go for awhile, Rod

I sent RiverRun Tackle an email on 11/20 stating that the lure they're shipping out is a very different color than 4 years ago and most importantly it's not the color on their web site or the Musky Shops web site. I asked if I could ship them back and get refunded for the shipping. No reply as of 11/24. I hold on to my thoughts and give them a little more time.

I have an old color Manta that is not available anymore? and had the color copied identical by Dave @ Bare Bones Baits on a Hellhound for me. Doesn't have to be him or done on a Hellhound but I am sure there are others out there that can copy the color onto a new lure for you.

Do what you can to keep that bait running. Every once in awhile you get a " Billie Baroo" Don't believe it has anything to do with color. Every once in awhile you get a magic bait. Be it a suick, reef hawg, bull dawg, dcg what have you. If you could bottle it and figure it out let me know. I know they're fisherman that know what I'm talking about. A magic bait. is just that. Let your confidence take the ride, till your next magic bait. takes over.

Thanks for the advice. I agree 100%. Had a suick in 2011 that the fish wouldnt leave alone. Caught a bunch and missed a bunch on it. The back tail got so destroyed on the last fish I couldn't repair it. Haven't been able to get a new Suick to work like that one since.

I threw the manta yesterday but my fish came on a phantom softtail which I throw in deeper water. Thats also a bait that I'm growing confidence in.

When you have confidence in something I don't blame you from where you are coming from. Hopefully the company will take care of you, but I'm sure those baits will work if you end up keeping them as well. I know what it's like to find that one magic bait. Except I usually ended up selling it (stupid) and always fought to replace it!

I bought an older model lac seul manta on ebay, thanks to a member of this site who gave me a heads up it was for sale. I will stick with using the old one until I loose confidence in it. It is one of my "Billy Baroos"

My real issues is, if tRiverrun changed the color, then they should change the image on the website, so you kno what you're getting when you make a purchase.

No reply from Riverrun tackle. Not expecting one at this point.

To me, you received a Sunny color manta instead of a Lac Seul Perch color manta

Well if you mean the original manta I have, no, it's not sunny color, it's Lac Seul Perch. Maybe the angle is bad but there is perch color beneath the gold scale and an orange belly. Several guys have PM'd to say they love the old Lac Seul Perch color as well. I just picked one up off of ebay and it's exactly the same as the one I've been using. It was posted and advertised as? You guessed it, Lac Seul Perch Manta

Anyway, this story is dead. I have one that catches fish and a spare to back it up. Now I have two perch mantas dont need...
