| Hi guys,
I know these questions have been asked in the past and I did look through the archives but can some of you tell me where I could get some big heavy duty globe prop blades? I bought some of the ones from Rollie's but they aren't going to cut it. I am looking for maybe 20 or so. Also where can I find some wood to turn on the lathe? I bought the biggest pine dowel I could at the hardware store but I would like bigger diameter and something more boyant than pine. If you could recommend a wood type and where to get it online I would be gratefull. I am hoping to get some done in time for Chrismas gifts. Thanks guys |

Location: Hastings, mn, 55033 | If your building topwater lures cedar is your best wood, IMO. Its buoyant and resistant to rot. I turn my lures out of square stock, either 2"x2"s or 4"x4"s. The 4"x4"s can be cut down on the band saw to save some time if you dont need them that "fat". I cut them down to 3"x3" or even 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" more than I use the full 4"x4" (3 5/8"x 3 5/8") Both can be found at your local lumber yard, Menards etc.
If your not using a lathe, then I would suggest finding some cedar closet rods. The problem with those is there are often much tighter grain and thus denser wood which isnt a good thing for topwater lures. Also make sure its white cedar or non aromatic red cedar.
Globe props can be found from moores lures. Lure parts online also has them I think. |
