Subject: Tony Portincaso


Does anybody remember the great musky educater Tony Portincaso? If so is he still active in the musky fishing industry?

Tony is a family friend from many years ago. My Father used to fish with him quite a bit when they were young. I saw him alot when I was a boy as a result, and ended up working with him at the old Glasway, Inc, owners of Tuffy Boats in the 80's. Tony left Glasway to start Tony Boats, and became a competitor, but as I moved on to Skeeter and then back to Tuffy again, he sold the boat company and I lost track of him. He and Sandy were very instrumental in running the Rosemont show, and it hasn't been the same since they left.

Tony retired from his teaching job ( I think he was Zach's high school math teacher). I saw him a year ago at a seminar, and it sounded to me like he was pretty much retired and enjoying life as a result.

I attended a seminar Tony did for Tuffy boats in West Bend years ago. My buddy and I still laugh at the way he presented his topic. He talked about a guy who brought him a jar of weeds and asked if those are the right ones to be fishing. Then he talked about picking out a fishing rod. He said if you wiggle it and put it back in the rack and then come back later and it's still wiggling, that's not the one you want. What a great sense of humor he has.

A while ago I attended Tony's weedline classes . He enjoyed teaching
as much as fishing.He brought a smile to everyone face with some of his
stories.He said he was one of the only people who could get Petros to
smile ,by showing him where to fish.....
I think he wrote an article for Musky Hunter this last year .It was
about pike . Tony the Weed Doctor........

Location: Aurora IL		 Saw Tony in Chicago in january. He was working a trade show for zebco. Looked good but didnt get a chance to talk to him.

Tony and Sandy are retired and living in Oregon IL. Tony still does a lot of fishing but has not been high profile in the industry.
