Finally convinced my dad to "step up" from a 7' rod to a 7'6" rod and I'm looking for a little feedback. My dad is looking at the Mojo Musky H rated for 2-6 oz with fast action, however I'm wondering if for the price he might not be better served by a TI MH or XH due to the softer action of the rods. I am familiar with the Mojo musk rods as I have the 8'6" XXH and while it hasn't been a bad rod, I'm wondering if there just wouldn't be a better option for him.

Due to shoulder issues he casts left handed, still reels right handed though, but even after a season of casting this way it really hasn't improved and add to that he casts sitting down and he doesn't really get a lot of power into his cast. That's why I was thinking the softer action might work better because it might load better for him and get him a little bit better of a cast. 99% of the time he is just straight cranking a 700 series buchertail, double 8, shallow raiders, jointed shad x-rap, or minid's. He also just got a Toro Winch so double 9's and depth raiders will also start making it into the mix. The reason I'm considering the XH TI which is rated to 8 oz, though I know it used to be rated up to 12 oz, is because I'm trying to get him to start throwing regular dawgs over the minis and maybe one day up to a mag.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Is a 8' out of the question. Going up 6" isn't much but a foot will give him better cast.

He's really fought the idea of longer rods, I had him try my 8'6" and he said it was too much, so I don't know if I could talk him into an 8 footer. He currently fishes with a cabelas rod that's rated 2-6 oz so I think regardless of what he gets, it will be better than what he currently has.

If he tucks his rod under his arm against his ribs, I would shy away from the split grip mojo.

If he likes split grip, than either. I run the mojo, it's a good rod, but I would rather have a full grip premier or other brand full grip.

I have the same concerns about the Compre as the St. Croix, and that is the fast action. I'm still wondering if a softer action would be better for him or if it would make a difference.

For what your wanting to do the lighter rod you can get will be the best with the double 8's etc. Thinkingnof throwing mags would force you into a heavier rod.

Yeah, and I don't think he'll ever go to mags but maybe regulars. I think I'm leaning towards the TI rods but still not sure on the MH vs the XH.

Go with a 76XH Tackle Industries rod. Great blank and he will like the handle a lot. Slightly thicker handle too. Good rod.

Buy him that used top-n-tail on the buy sell board. It's 8' but is very light and can handle the baits he likes to throw...and is a big step up from the rods that you are looking at. IMHO.

I use my Compres for everything except the big stuff, mag dawgs, double 10's anything else that pulls hard.I like a softer tip for that stuff... It's an awesome jerkbait/twitch bait rod,my favorite...
