Hey fellas,

My router/table is junk...I hate it. I bought it a few years ago cheap at one of the retail lumber shops and it is at the end of its useful life.
Can anyone recommend a quality set up I was hoping to pay less than $250

Thanks in advance for the tips

Hate to say it but you get what you pay for. 250 is enough for a decent router but for both you'll be hard to find anything decent. I don't know what your woodworking skill level is or what you have for tools but I would recommend buying a porter cable router and making your own table. That's what I did. I have a two inch thick laminate top with a 12" square piece of 3/4" lexan that the router is mounted in. Then it sits in a cabinet with a door and switch. There are nice tabletops that you can buy that have height adj built into them but those are pretty expensive by them selves. I can post pics if you want.

For just under $300 you can get a bosch router table and a porter cable 1.75hp fixed base router. If you only use the router for making baits and an occasional edge routing applications, you would be happy with this. If you plan on using the router for any kind of joinery as making doors etc., you will find it to be under powered. As for the Bosch table , it's a very decent table with a nice fence with a lot of adjustability, the dust collection is pretty good as well. It is the Cadillac of moderately priced router tables.

I would agree that the router is undersized for making doors but that's what I have a shaper for. I have the router that MH47 speaks of. It is good enough for anything else. I have the d handle and plunge bases also which is why I recommend it. A great and versatile router. There are a few tables like the Bosch and Kreg brands but the down side to me is they are on the light side and vibration and unstableness (if that's a word) are a concern. For the price you can build a really nice unit. For this reason you can find a ton of plans on wood working sites. We are getting a little off topic if you are just looking to make baits but I and others have been woodworkers far longer than bait makers. I will post pics soon as I rent a woodworking shop across town.

Not to mention a router table is a great woodworking project. I built mine about ten years ago and have wanted to build a new one for a while but don't fix it if it ain't broke.
