Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Ok, dumb question....if I can tie directly from super line to a fluro leader (80-100lb) with this knot http://www.everglades-fishing.com/everglades-fishing/images/knot1.j... and put a ball bearing swivel coupled to the snap at the other end...why wouldnt that work?
Would be nice to not have to buy leaders is my thought here! |

| the double uni knot is for line of similar diameter... i have been doing this for 20 years bass fishing and have tried it for musky but never really trusted it...

uni knot just don't work well for this application ... most people don't trust 100# fluorocarbon... a better knot for what your looking to do is a albright or reverse albright which is for tying knot from braid to a larger diameter line... |

Location: Sycamore, IL | I tie 100# flouro direct to my main line,100# braid, using a Uni-knot on my crank bait trolling rods-no swivel. I've been doing it for a few years with no issues. Definitely will save you some money versus buying 5ft trolling leaders. I'll have to check out the other knots mentioned when I'm re-rigging this winter...
P.S.
If you are using a swivel any way why not just make conventional leaders and tie them on? |

Would be nice to not have to buy leaders is my thought here! it will. Probably a good idea to double your main line before tying the knot. It will add some strength to the uni.

| You can also use a FG knot or a similar knot .
To the end I'd use just a snap without a ball bearing swivel.

Takes a bit of time to do, but it's really strong, i don't use a swivel as well, i just crimp a loop in the other end, and attach my stay lock to it.

| Unless you're trolling, and line twist is a real concern, you can also just tie the flouro to a solid ring, and put split rings on the nose of your lures. I've played around with this a bit. It's great for night fishing, because you can hear and feel the uni knot going through your guides, so you know how much line you have out/when to start your figure 8.
I've since gone back to using Stealth leaders, because I can't stand the knot going through the guides. It bugs me. Don't need anything bugging me when I'm fishing. |
