I am looking to buy a big bait rod (mostly for pounders). I'm looking for around max 200$ for new but wouldn't mind buying used for around 100$.

I was looking at the Mojo Musky 4-10oz (already own the 2-6oz which I love fishing with for double blades, but just not strong enough for pounders) and the Fenwick Elite Tech 4-12oz.

8'6'' would be better for figure 8s. Any pros and cons about these rods or any other good suggestion in the price range? It's gonna be matched with a Calcutta 400B.

Thanks.

I would get the xx heavy TI musky rod, I have the 8' one but the 9' would be great also. And they are about $150

check out the new St. Croix premiers...they have an 8'6xh and a new 9'0 xh. A tad more than what you wanted to spend but they beefed up the handles and they are great rods

I was throwing pounders this past weekend on my XXH Mojo Musky and it was handling them fine. The biggest thing I don't like about my Mojo Musky is actually the split grip. Having said that, lots of people on this forum love Tackle Industries rods so I don't think you can go wrong with the XXH TI for $150. I'm actually considering having a custom built on a TI blank.

+1 for the Premier 8'6' XH, great rod for around $200. My premiers have taken a pounding over the years.

I also like my okuma 8'6" XH evx.

I would probably look to XXH in both of these if I were throwing mostly pounders.

Go with the MI Mark Lijewski XXXXH!

Can cast pounder the whole day with strong backbone for safe hooksettings.

The XXH TI is way too soft in my opinion.

Go with the TI XXH. Its the best pounder rod I have ever used. Even throw a few 2# with it once in a while. Goos rod.

If yer willing to go 2 hundy, you could always go with a custom & pick yer blank.
Bet there's a few guys on here that make um and you can't beat some of the mfgr's warranties combined with the maker's build warranty for quick replacement/fix.
Also, some have blanks made to certain specs and update the specs per trends like bait weight & length.
Trooo!
