Location: Hayward, WI | Well I had my last trip of the year in the boat yesterday and I was looking back at the past season. It was by far my worst year catching muskies that I can remember. I had more trips where I never even saw a fish than I care to admit. So I started thinking of the positives:
I did not launch my boat this year without putting the drain plug in.
I did not get to the landing and find out my start battery was dead.
I unplugged the battery charger every time before heading out.
I didn't forget the net, rain gear, bug dope, sun screen or TP when I needed them.
No one in my boat hooked them selves.
I didn't end up in the ER to get stitches.
I didn't drop my favorite sunglasses in the lake.
My trolling motor footpedal worked all year.
My son is enjoying fishing more. |

| You forgot the big one. You got to spend time fishing with your son. Musky fishing is tough in the beginning and PM me on opener and I will try and help. |

But ice is fast approaching. I'm sure you'll make up for the uneventful muskie season.

Now I will be more than likely be completely out of the game for the next three musky seasons, so i got nothin to complain about. |

The second positive is what is the likelihood of having two years in a row with fishing as tough as this year was? It can only get better! |

| I broke a 3 year streak of getting hooked! Makes me happy to not have another story about how I had to push a hook through. I also didn't fall out of my deer stand this year! Great year for safety!
Muskie fishing was about average for me. Caught a few big ones and a bunch of good ones...one real dink at 18". Fun year! |

| A really strange year for me....
Caught my biggest fish ever---trolling...and another nice fish trolling...
But not one fish casting---first time ever.....very disappointing indeed! Five weeks of prime time summer fishing Big V....
Oh and I agree with the original list of things to be positive about.....yes all those things were true of my season also---except the foot pedal----My Motor guide that came with the boat has always had problems---works for a couple days, and then does not work---wiggle wires etc....works again.....
The big motor busted a belt but was fixed same day--and the kicker ran flawlessly---for all the boat owners----that is always part of the equation of a good season....did my boat run without major money repairs.... |

| I forgot the boat plug twice in one day. Just moving from one lake to the next. That's why you bring grandsons fishing. "Grandpa Mike did you put the plug thing in this time?"
And I was able to extract all hooks in the boat. No ER!
Nothing over 45" this year.
Heck as long as you are on the green side of the lawn all is good. |
