| Man, that recent Lamiglas chat really got me thinking about moving up to better rods. And I happen to have about $150 my wife doesn't know about. I've been leafing through the Rollie and Helen's catelog, and at this point it's between the Lami GC80XH 8'er and the Loomis MUR844C-MB 7'er (4-power cast medium bucktail).
I plan on using this rod for bucktails, mostly Buchertail 700s and original Ghost Tails. Abu 6500 w/ 80# powerpro. I have smaller hands and palm the reel so smaller diameter handle are preferable.
So, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?? Or, would you send me in another direction? (just don't send me to Fenwick, the HMG reel seat problem has about broken my heart)

Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Ranger, if you want to wait a bit, I have a Loomis you can try at Bone Lake if you want to wait that long. I did have this rod for sale for a while but won some $$$ in a tourney and decided to hang onto it. Am very glad I did, works well for slow rolling those big spinners that I like. I will be trying to set uo the Bone Lake outing soon. |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I throw with both Loomis and Lamiglas....my humble opinion: Loomys are lighter, Lamis more powerful on the hookset, but heavier and stiffer.

Well, upgrading rods is a fun and good idea. I jsut bought 2 Lamiglass and i love them. Lamiglas carries an "In Shore" series too, that are great for musky fishing, but not what i have.
I have a 6'2" Lamiglass and 6'9", so i can comment on the 8 footers, but Lamiglass are sweet...they handle the big baits really well. Steve has some 8 foot G Loomis rods, so email him...but he throw G Loomis most of season for jerkbaits and bulldogs and he loves them. I think the G Loomis are just as heavy as the Lamiglass, but when we are talking about an ounce or two here and there...whoppy $hit. I think fly fisherman are the ones who care around weight of rods, i think you'll be able to hold onto either rod all day long.
Why do i have Lamiglass over Loomis?? i found my Lamiglas rods at super good prices...bottom line. email me if you want to talk about where i got them.
I love them both, but I'll have to stick w/ the glas, Lamiglas for a while while big bro is gearing up w/ Loomis.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Tomcat brings up a good point.....if you are willing to spend around $180, check out the Lamiglas InShore Classic in a 7' heavy. Might be a tad bit stiff for smaller bucktails, but will work PERFECTLY for medium sized twitch baits, and I absolutely loved (mine sank in a bad storm,  ) mine for topwaters of all kinds.

| I have used Lamiglas rods for the last four seasons. I have switched to all In Shore models for muskie fishing. They are not as heavy and make great muskie sticks. I use the 8 footer for almost all baits, great hook setting power. The longer rods are great for triggering strikes from following fish. You can move the bait side to side a good distance away from the boat.

Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | Ranger, I have both of the poles that you are thinking about, I love both of em too but if I were to consider buying another rod it would be a Lamiglas 7 foot figure 8 special. It won't throw really light bucktails such as a musky killer really well BUT anything with a little weight and especially those bulgers or spinnerbaits it is da stick.That stick does alot of dancin in the hands of the muskydr! Check one out before you buy the others. |

| Ranger the rod you should seriouly look into for your small hands and 5600 abu garcia is a diawa musky bucktail rod. similar to the ones Jim Saric uses. The reel seat is a bass style with the rod blank shown under the seat. This is very comfortable with smaller hands, and can give you great feel with a bucktail or twitchbait. I have a 5600 on this rod and is the most comfortable rod/reel combo I use. The diawa is very similar to the HMG Fenwick. |

Tomcat has the Lamiglas and I have Loomis. But I think both are great rods. In fact, I just bought a 8' Ex-Heavy Lamiglas. Haven't thrown it yet.
I don't know if Lamiglass has more a$$ than a Loomis....I don't think so. If you're looking to throw bucktails, the Loomis you mentioned is awesome. I have one.
