| when the water is 38-42 degrees how fast do people like to troll? I usually cast or slowly drift suckers but would like to get into trolling big crank baits. |

Location: SE, WI. | I would mix it up. I also think the location is key to this speed thing. Buck Perry Says: " If you think you are going too fast, turn it up a notch"! I remember a trip where I was trolling through a neck down area. I Was trolling going 3 - 4 MPH for 3 passes, with 41 degree water. Was marking about 15 - 20 hooks every time through. I said, one more pass at 5.2 mph....BINGO....ZZZZ-ZZZ-ZZZZZ. Every time you hear someone say, " slow it down in the fall" take it with a grain of salt!!! Guiding Pewaukee's waters. JD

Location: On the Niagara River in Buffalo, NY | I troll 2.0 to 2.5 mph from 45 degrees to 40 degrees.Never got to troll in water below 40 degrees season always closes in NY before water temp gets that cold. |

| Below 45 you want to troll 2.5-2.9. Have people caught them going 4.0--without a doubt. if you are looking for the biggest fish in the system, then try this speed. Several 50lb. fish in the boat. proof is in the pudding. Every system is different, hardest part of trolling slow is confidence. Once you get a monster - you'll be sold. Go to a sandbar and make your own dive chart. Going slower means your lures will not dive as deep. Go with baits with a wide wobble. Jakes, Believers etc. Good Luck |

Location: On the Niagara River in Buffalo, NY | With leadcore line going slower means going deeper with less line out , you can take big crankbaits that would normaly rise as you slowdown directy to bottom structure with ease. |

Location: WI | I've caught multiple fish trolling 3 to 3.5 in water as cold as 37 degrees. One of those fish was caught in the prop wash while turning. I'm guessing it was going close to 4 mph. Don't think there's a special speed for the water temps, have to experiment and find out what they want. |
