| I am buying a new rod. I fish musky only two weeks per year and want the best all around rod available. Is the 9' TI XH telescopic the answer?
Does it handle small blades and small glides and cranks ?
How about the weight of the rod?
I know this is the place to get the right answer.......
All input is greatly appreciated.

| I agree if you want only one rod and you want the best available get a st. Croix big nasty. |

Location: Perryville, MO | The " best" is subjective or at least relative to one's specific needs. The short answer is that the xh TI 9' rod will likely perfectly fit your need. I love the ones that I use and so do many others here. It throws a large variety of baits very well. At the same time it is preposterous to suggest that it's the "best" rod made or that it will handle every kind of bait perfectly. There is, of course, a reason that specific technique rods exist. And some rods may out-perform TI's, but I can assure you they cost a whole lot more as well. I choose ti because I like them a whole lot ( and I don't tend to "play it cheap" with my gear). No doubt you certainly would not be disappointed purchasing a St. Croix legend either (probably for your purposes a sling blade). Or the Predator. |

| If you do decide to go high-end custom rods, don't limit yourself to st croix and predator blanks. The TI would work great for your mentioned uses as well and save some funds for other stuff:-) BR |

| For price, TI. For quality, TI = St Croix. I love my TI rods and they throw a bait as well or better than a SC IMO. Both are excellent rods IMO. |

Location: Planet Meltdown | If I had $150 to spend on one rod it would be a TI 9' Tele MH Split grip. The XH is overkill for the smaller stuff. This isn't the perfect rod for glides unless you are super tall or standing high off the water. I would pair it up with a Curado 300E and call it a day. I have this set up and I find that I use it a lot (at least when I'm not throwing jerk and glide baits). It's perfect for bucktails, cranks, rubber, and topwaters. I even use it to slow roll DCGs. |

| You may say you will throw only small stuff now but you will end up tossing larger lures. Just the nature of the sport. |

I took pounders off the table for the rod and it was suggested that I go with the XH and have an inch taken off the top and that this would handle the little stuff, up to mags. |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I fish the TI telescopic rods with the split grips. Love them! The XH is a good rod but if you want to go 10"s and Pounders go to the XXH. You can still throw most of the other baits. I actually prefer the 8' 6" rod vs. the 9'. My rational is I feel it is easier to land a fish into the net when I am by myself. But I have both the 9' and two or more of each action 8'6". For the price you could have a XXH & a MH TI rod both. |

| I agree with gordonmann69. I have both the TI and St. Croix and usually use the TI rods 90% of the time. |

I have a TI in every power and like them. I bought a jerk 7'6" and a big nasty and love them. They just feel better in my hand using them. I like my 9'XXH for rubber and larger stuff. |

| Got my first muskie rod a 9' TI XH tele and really like it. I use anything from a 2oz crank, to a 9oz rubber, to a double #10. |

| The TI will serve you well. The xh is likely best for overall usage. |

9' TI XH telescopic - split handle it is.
Thanks to all who made comment. |

| May want to think about the full handle. Its comfy to stick under your arm while you work your baits. |

Location: Lakeville, MN | I started with split grips but switched to full grips not long after I started throwing rubber.. the rod blank would dig into my side after a while and was uncomfortable, but that's just me |
