Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Actually, light and batteries and trolling motor don't really fit well together in a single sentence.
First decide how you are going to be usiing your TM, that will dictate the battery size...... depending on the boat, a 30lb TM may be on the light side, e.g., you may be using it at full power most of the time..
The lightest batteries with the higest energy density by weight on the market are the Optima deep cycle. They are also the most expensive.
Marine deep cycle batteries are usually rated with a reserve time in minutes, e.g., that is typically @ 25 ampere load. Look at the maximum current rating of your TM.
For example: A 225 minute reserve time means the battery will only provide 25A for 225 minutes. If you're planning on using your TM a lot throughout the day, most typically on windy days, etc. You might even want two parallel connected batteries. It's no fun having your TM battery crap out of power just as the muskie witching hour approaches at the end of the day.
