| HI, I have a number of Abu C3's 5500 &6500's and haven't done any cleaning for quite awhile. I've heard of some "tweeking" that can be done on these such as "smoothies" and maybe other things. Can any of you give me some tips on what to ask for from a tech in working on my reels? I'd sure appreciate your input.
Thanks! |

You can also replace the level wind system with a dual bearing level wind, the stock one uses 2 plastic bushings instead of bearings. The idler cog can also be upgraded to one with either a single or now a dual bearing also. So you can make your Abus C7s. I've pimped out all of my reels. A great source for the upgrades is mikesreelrepair.com. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | If U are using the ABU 5500 - 6500 reels for Musky Fishing, the first thing I would do is a set of CARBONTEX DRAG WASHERS, cost $12.00 installed, the Carbontex washers will make the drag smooth and give it a little more stoping power. Next I will Detail Tune and Relube each reel for $25.00 each. As far as upgrading spool bearings save your $$$$ the spool brakes can't handle any more speed and after I run the stock spool bearing in a ultra sonic cleaner for over 30 mins, they are like new, then I treat the bearings with a dry lube that will last for over a year and then the stock spool bearings will perform as fast as a set of ceramic bearings.
Then the last thing is to install a 5" double paddle power handle for $30.00 installed, now U will have a reel that U can use for Musky fishing that will handle alot of baits. |
