Has anyone fished Deer Lake (south of Moose Lake) in Deer River MN. I have fished it a few times in the last couple years and have only caught small ones. I did see one that was over 40" patrolling the weed line on the East side but she didn't care for the baits I was throwing. For the small ones that I have caught they seemed to like white or grays in either hair and cranks.
Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

If it's the Deer lake I'm thinking of, MuskyOne knows it very well and he'll certainly help you. M1 is a pro on this site and you can contact him directly, just find his e-mail address attached to his profile.

Ranger,

That is a great lake as well with the same name but located in the fine state of Wisconsin.

Deer lake! Now it's a Puddle of Mud!

I have fished Deer and Moose as well as a few other lakes in the Deer river/Grand Rapids area. In my opinion those lakes are some of the best Muskie lakes in the state. Crystal clear water can be tough to fish though so try overcast days or dawn/dusk for better luck.

For more info email me at [email protected] and I'll do what I can to help!

Lineman-

Beautiful lake - tough to fish. Morning and evenings have been the most
productive times, add bad weather your odds improve greatly.
With the water being gin clear finding good DEEP cabbage 10-16ft. in a
saddle area or ringing a rock hump/small island is very helpful.
Fan casting baitfish over 80' of water is always fun and works on that
lake. Wind really helps in eliminating A LOT of water and improves your
odds dramatically. No easy fish on the lake with the clarity, depth and
vast structure !!
The night bite may be good but, I have not tried it - tough lake to
navigate - some scary rocks !!
It's neighbor Big Moose is easier to fish and don't discount Little
Moose.

Ranger, Thanks I'll do just that.

Steve, I have fished Deer lake in WI many, many times but that was approximately 15 years ago. Matter of fact I caught my first there! Thanks

Mother, We have not tried the night bite either but plan on it this year. I don't think we have been fishing deep enough. I fish with my Step-Dad and he likes to fish the shallow weeds/reeds. On the other hand he has had tremendous luck fishing Walleye using a Pearl white Shad Rap and trolling it with a ton of line out getting the bait deep. He's caught many fish in the 6-9lb range in the middle of the day. Oops, I let out a secret!
