have used the heavy ones for both trolling and suckers.
worked good for trolling; too soft for consistent hook-sets on suckers.
get the Black River that you were talking about earlier, works great for both.

Location: Wakefield, MI | I use the 8' heavy, I like it for trolling but like the poster above its a bit soft for suckers. I'm thinking of getting a black river trolling rod to try out. |

Location: Walker, MN | +3...even the heavy bends from tip to grip when a lot of pressure is applied. Something with a more parabolic action (soft tip and stiff butt) would be better. A heavy ugly stick might work for both?? |

| I also think the heavy TDR is too soft for suckers hook sets. If your only going to have one rod for both I think you would be happy with the St. Croix glass rod. That is my sucker rod. |

Location: Green Bay, Titletown, WI | Tackle Industries trolling/sucker rod has been great for me. Plenty of backbone for sucker fishing. I don't do a ton of trolling, but when I do troll, it does the job well. |

| Black river glass trolling rods work great for suckers. I also use the tdr for trolling and they might be a touch light for a hook set, but for trolling I would recommend 8' tdr heavies, cheap and work great! |

| Trolling yes. Suckers, no. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I agree on the 8' H for trolling, but too limber for suckers. For double duty, my TI 8' trolling/live bait rod seems to do well. I view it more of a sucker rod, but I've trolled with it and I think it has enough give in the tip for trolling, especially with big baits and planer boards. |
