Watch this, it says a lot about why I love muskie fishing and have devoted so much time & effort in pursuing these fish. Its probably the best muskie fishing video ever!

| I don't know why I do anything. The fish? I've met some wonderful people over the years and some have become good friends. The places I've traveled to, to fish.
Some of the little things. Being on a lake with a full moon on one of those painfully quiet nights. Your ears have been so overloaded with constant droaning of the "busy" world. I took my wife out on a night like that a couple years ago, small lake in NW WI. She hadn't said anything for a while, then made the comment "now I know why this is important to you".
The list could be endless. I guess if it was just the fish it wouldn't be enough. |

Bob is more of a purist I think. Just rod, reel, line, leader, lure and hopefully...a big beautiful fish. |

| To me its the reward of putting in countless hours of fishing for that 1 bite and getting it to the net. Also I like catching big fish and I have nothing better to do during the summer. |

Just kidding. I think it's the challenge, and constant learning every season. There's just something about these fish that gets to you.

Location: Wisconsin | Because they are always doing something that you don't expect. They are such a blast to catch, and there is always a chance that a monster could be on the line! They follow and then slowly just drift away, out of sight. The next time maybe he hits on the eight, or smashes it on the splash of the cast. You get the sound of the clicker as he picks up the sucker....man that is a great to hear!
Anticipation, it is pretty powerful |

My motivation has changed quite a bit over the years, evolving along the way as what the sport meant to my career, family, and friends changed. About a dozen years ago, Zach and I founded this place, and I have never had more fun working in my life. One could say 'everything fishing is my job', and the -chasing Muskies- portion has never been more enjoyable. |

I feel your pain. I have had the same fish throw the same bucktail, mid-air three times...from the same rock! I felt I had atom splitting sharp hooks and a solid hookset each time. Do you think I'll try for a 4th encounter?? That's why I do it. It's the definition of sport. |

Perfectly said! exactly what I was thinking.
I love how challenging it is. Each time I catch one is a new lesson learned on the water. Each time I don't, is still a lesson learned on the water. Knowledge is power. And come on Fishing muskies in Fresh water is like being the BA that fishes Great Whites in the ocean - Apex predator. BRING IT ON! |

Location: MN | 1. The adreneline rush. The rush I get from catching a nice one is like nothing else I've experienced while fishing. Nothing like trying to settle down the shakes so you can pull her out of the bag for a pic.
2. The challenge and reward. After long hours chasing these critters it makes for a better reward and feeling of accomplishment when it finally comes together. Anyone can catch a walleye. |

| Sometimes I scratch my head why I put in the time, money, and effort, but when you feel a giant strike there's not many feelings like it. Love the challenge of catching and mystique of what lies beneath. Never experienced anything like it that can take you from extreme frustration to the ultimate reward in a matter of seconds. |

I really do it because its a challenge. Its like playing chess(very painful chess), always trying to outguess the fish. Walleye are too easy to catch, and I don't like to eat lot of fish, so muskie are perfect for me. |

Location: Quebec, Canada | Definitly for the challenge and mostly for the addiction... also when you're catch and releasing all species, fishing for walleyes eventually start seeming pointless, fishing for bass gets boring as it's so easy to get 10 fishes a boat a day... well pike are less a challenge than muskies... and muskies make you spend a lot of time on the water, in the books, on the web, saving cash for unlimited lures that most of them won't even hit that mucht the water as you'll keep on throwing the same confidence lures... but still, the satisfaction of having new equipment and lures gets you a bit closer to the feeling of catching a musky... and that is as addictive as drug.

| I've asked myself that very question. It goes back and forth between "what the F%& am I doing this for?!" to "oh yeah, THAT'S why we're out here!!" As the years go by, it's less about the fish and more about being out there on the water. Why do I fish for muskies?
Because I like the places where they live. I like the challenge. I know I'm going to catch all the other fish if I try. Muskies? Not so much. I love the boatside fish. I love that you actually get to see them eat most of the time. I love that they blow up on baits and miss baits, and sometimes swim up after a lure doing 90 MPH and suddenly decide that they don't want it. I love that you can scare them away. I love that the same fish will blow up on a tail prop three times in a cast and still not eat it. I guess it's kinda dumb, but the friggin' things just plain make me laugh. All fishing is fun, but muskies are good for some serious laughs. And there's no other fishing that I've found in fresh water that can be described as 4 hours of nothing followed by 60 seconds of complete chaos. It's like a jack in the box without the cheesy music. You sit there turning that stupid handle, knowing that at some point a big ugly thing is going to come flying out of there and scare the snot outta 'ya, but you can't help but do it anyway. And every time, it scares the bejesus out of you and you laugh your butt off.
Hmph. Maybe I fish for them because I'm nuts... |

| I have the same reasons as most of the guys who have responded...I love the "mystery" behind musky fishing. They are such an elusive fish...I love the challenge...most people can't understand that I can get excited about not catching a single fish for 3 days but being as excited as a school girl because I had a giant follow my bucktail to the boat. And...I have said it before and I will say it again "Hi, I am Dwayne...and I am a Gearaholic"....and there is SO MUCH GEAR that you either need or "NEED" for musky fishing...I could never buy it all in a lifetime. And when the stars do all aline...and the waters part....and I do actually put a good one in the boat...thats just icing on the cake...especially if my son was with me. |
