But, aside from that...it's musky fishing! |

| It is by far my favorite hobby, not first priority. Goes like this: fish, fish, fish, met wife, some fishing, marriage, some fishing, kids, kinda fish, kids, kids kids kids, fish a little again now. My last two 40 inchers came in 2007. Last 40 inch follow was in 2012. I get by on the memories, but my passion is to cast when I can. |

| There are times where there's nothing better than sitting in a boat blowing through 2 dozen leeches in a few hours and catching two dozen fish in the process. There are times when there's nothing better than sitting on the pier with a beer and watching a slip bobber knowing you need one more fish for a good supper and you've got 4 more hours of daylight. I never understood the guys who say they don't fish for anything but muskies anymore. There's just too much fun to be had out there fishing for everything else. |

| Definitely not my favorite "thing" to do in life. My favorite is....well, not appropriate to say on a family fishing site but you get the point. As far as fishing and species. Muskie was my favorite until I hooked into several 6-7 foot 150#+ Tarpon casting or sight fishing to them. Blows Muskie fishing away..hands down. I'm now going back for my 3rd and 4th time this winter and spring. Much more to life than Muskie. |

Prop,. Here's my take on This question:......And my top priorities,. Which are tied into favorite things to do......
Wife/sex,...If Mama ain't happy, your life will Suck...
Kids,...I have seven,.. love doing stuff with them.( they all like to muskie fish)
I love my job,.... I work way too much,...
Sports,..... Golf, football, hockey, Basketball, BASEBALL, Shooting.....dirt biking /4 wheeling ..
Muskie fishing.......
With that said,. I probably muskie fish about 500 hrs a yr. for the last 10 yr. on avg.
No one asked about Hobbies...... Is Muskie fishing a hobby or a THING to do?
If I were single Muskies would be #2 behind S..

When I do get out musky fishing it is less of a race and more an experience. I am on less fish because I don't go enough to develop a pattern. I still enjoy it way more than I did 10 years ago, but it's not my favorite. |

Thats living with blinders on for me, there are so many other fun things that must be done through the course of a year. Tailgating at an NFL game is one that is in my top 5. Kentucky Derby makes the list, not to mention all the smokin hot girls in funky hats and see through dresses. That's a top 3.. |

But there are other pleasures in life too.........fishing with kids, exploring new places, cooking (if you do it well), rodeo's, stock car or drag races or tractor pulls, county fair's, car shows, gun show's, mushroom hunting (as obsessive as muskie fishing, but cheaper and I don't have to CPR them), growing your own food & sharing with friends & family. Lots & lots of others.......watching girls beach volley ball... yup maybe top 5!
Have fun!

Location: MN | My top four in no particular order are muskie fishing, duck hunting, seeing quality live music and ice fishing. I wish the best muskie fishing wasn't during duck season.
The only problem I have now is fishing for other species in the summer once muskie season opens. With the exception of Trout on Nipigon I really have a tough time fishing for anything besides muskies. I wish it wasn't that way but it is. I was warned and they were right. |

| Funny how things change over the years with marriage, kids, etc.,...I was, (and some would argue to a degree still am), obsessed with muskies and for many years had a difficult time engaging in any other type of hobby or pursuit. But these days, I find myself much less enthused to fish anywhere except LOTW. I still get out locally with some frequency, but if I were given the choice between 2 weeks/year on LOTW, or, unlimited fishing time locally and/or on WI waters, I'd take the 2 weeks on LOTW and it's an easy decision for me.
So, to answer the question, muskie fishing on LOTW is my favorite thing to do. Although still enjoyable, muskie fishing elsewhere really isn't. |

| I was not trying to catch that Musky that day, I normally catch LM Bass, perch, walleye, pike and other pan fish. I cast my worm harness, there was no strike, I started reeling back my line and getting ready to cast on another spot and then this strike came from nowhere, my line was roaring ..... rrrrrrrrrrr, I let the fish pull, as soon as It stopped, I reeled it fast, the fish jump up the water, I thought It was a LM Bass or SM Bass. Then I saw this ugly looking fish with razor sharp teeth, I grabbed the tail, the head keeps swinging left to right, the mouth chomped like "Pacman". I don't have the proper gear that time but I managed to grab the head and blood starts to came out, I checked the fish, It wasn't the fish bleeding, It was my thumb cut from the razor sharp teeth when I was trying to remove the worm. I looked at the fish, It was amazing. I put back that fish and swam away after 8-10 mins. From that time on, I always think of catching another one, this one It will not be, by accident. |

| Not sure what your saying? Ive taken a dozen trips I'd rather relive weekly if I had the time and money - I could easily never fish muskies again - wouldn't miss it a bit......200lb Marlin eating your fly at 10 yards away, running down giant roosterfish on the beach, bowhunting bugling elk, exploring Alaska.. on and on. Muskies are a nice Midwest "hunt".... Cool fish, but not close to my top 10 of things I'd really like to be doing...daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.

Location: Maple Grove, MN | I enjoy Muskie and try to get out when I can. But time to fish is short. Just like so many of the rest of you, I'm busy with my wife, kids and work. And then I'm still recovering from a major ankle surgery this summer and am still dealing with shoulder issues which make fishing quite painful at times.
Both of my daughters are into travelling basketball and I'm sure most here know how costly that is in both time and money. After a standout fall soccer season, my youngest daughter has been asked to join an elite travelling soccer team. That goes through the winter and all the way until the middle of next July. And then there is AAU basket in the spring which starts at the end of March and goes to the end of June. And that is just the sports.
My wife now wants to remodel the house and my youngest daughter is really into hunting this year. We've been going duck hunting every weekend this fall and she has already shot her first duck. So duck hunting has pretty much replaced fall fishing. Here is a picture:

Years of keeping a log muskie fishing points that month time period as my most productive, so I fish them for one month. I chase bass and walleye the rest of the year.
Still catching a muskie is by far a rush and love it, just not enough to go after them from opener to ice up. To much fun fishing other species. |

| It has become my favorite now that I have a boat. Id rather be out there all day trying for one ski rather than catch multiple bass/walleye/pike etc. Although I will fish for them if no muskies are biting but secretly am still hoping a muskie will end up on the end of the line.
Other hobbies are totally neglected now, Car sits under a cover in the garage, snowmobiles get very few miles a year, guns stay in the safe, havent been hunting in years. etc
Good thing the GF is cool with it and just being on the water with me. No kids so thats a non issue. Now if I could only find more time off work to be out there more. |

It used to be bow hunting for monster bucks, and shed hunting.
I put more time in, shed hunting, than anything else.
Now that I'm retired, and moved out of Illinois, I don't shed hunt anymore.
All my time is spent fishing in northern Minnesota. I do fish some, in Florida, during the winter.
I love to fish for bass and walleye, in May and early June, but it's all about muskies, after that!!!! |

| Yes I think musky are awesome as you asked and no I don't think they should be stocked everywhere as there are enough lakes around with musky to be had. I can see other lakes getting stocked to spread the joy of musky fishing but not every lake.
For fishing it sure is my favorite fish to target.
I love musky fishing as I married a fishing nut also my wife grew up fishing all the time and when I got the musky bug she was not far behind me. My daughter loves to get out musky fishing and has been a great partner since she was around 7 years old. My so is 9 now and likes it at times but still like to fish for other fish which is OK by me on the days we get out together as I will target musky as he pounds the bait fish.
I also love musky fishing as I get to share this passion with many people who never fished musky before and watch there excitement as they have a musky chase there bait boat side and even better when they hook up on the figure 8.
Is it my all time favorite thing to do Yes and No
Yes as its a family thing lots of times.
No as again this fall I did not get out much as I was doing non fishing things with my family and only hit the water 3-4 times from the end of September family always comes first.
As for the guys here who put down Work above fishing musky you are lucky to have a job that makes you that happy. Im working my way towards there maybe one day until then I will work to pay bills. |

I gave up golf to buy fish camp, I also gave up motorcycles to buy fish camp. ( I now have another scooter though!) Time is now the demanding thing. Time just divided between the species I want to fish is hard to come by. Since I am still working, time to be there when it's right is another! I would rank Muskie fishing in the top 5 also. |

I just did the same.
Believe me its not so bad when your child wakes up @ 4:30 & you spend an hr with them until they go back down, all of a sudden its 5:30, and you can hit the water.
Either way its awesome. You will have more time to fish the first year than the second, so if you are in question about a boat, year 1 is the year!
