My husband currently has the abu garcia 6601 C4 WE keep having issues... had two go bad fast fix and again....never had a problem with Abu Garcia and service was great before...now issues and they only keep offering parts all we can get. We need something different based on problems I bought a Calcutta right had so far so good for me. Looking at diawa possibly Calcutta again but he wants faster gear ratio left handed and often not sold left handed for faster for higher gear... what is recommended, money not an issue we want something that holds up.

Left hand high speed I would look at the Abu Revo Toro NACL 61 in 6.4 gears. If you want to avoid Abu I would go with Shimano products.

If you don't need a level wind look at Avet high speed or two speed reels. American made and are rock solid.

How long have you used the NACL and has it held up? I did research just want to know if they can stand a guy that burns through reels. We take care of them but they get a lot of use

The NACL's have only been out around a year. I bought mine this past winter. If you want bulletproof I would stick with Shimano. I own a a half dozen Calcuttas; 400CT's, 400D's, 400TE's. All have been flawless but they are not high speed as you indicated that you want for your husband. And nothing is really bulletproof if you are going to abuse it.
Personally I like the 400TE the best.

For a fast gear ratio reel, and is left hand, I really like the shimano curado 301dsv and 301e, super smooth, quite fast, and durable. can find em on ebay for good prices usually too.

There is a more expensive shimano not sure left hand last time I looked I didn't come across it possibly new. The diawa salstist... anyone own those top of our list as a choice... shamino certainly all sites seems to have highest reviews.

I see there is a Abu Garcia Revo Rocket with 9:1 gears for 37 inch per crank. Is that fast enough? It also has 10 ball bearings for smoothness.

I seem to burn though reels pretty quick. No more Abu. Even managed to wreck my bullet proof Avet. Shimano's have stood the test of time. If you can get your hands on a TE or a new D. Curado's are another good option depending on how it will be used.

Do you claim that the Avet steel gears, wears out quicker than the brass ones on a Shimano?

There are more to it, than just raw durability, The functionality and castability of the Revo NACI, Toro etc is IMO a better than on the CalcuttD, or the Curado. IMO, only the Shimano TE matches the ABU's in castability of bucktails and other wind sensitive baits.

Gears can be easily replaced when worn out, and are ment to.

I also like the ABU IAR better, anti reverse without play, contrary to my new CalcuttaD!.

But overall, all the Japan made Shimanos are better build than the Revo Toro, and will be able to function for a longer time, without maintenance. Comparing the Shimanos to a Revo NACI, is like comparing a sportscar(needs more maintenance) with a pickup.

No. Just my experience with 'em. I didn't intend to bash Avet's but i guess I kind of did....
They fixed it under warranty so it all worked out in the end.
