Have a 9' xxh telescoping rod went to pull it out to length to fish like I always do then wnt to turn it to line up the eyelets and it is STUCK. Can't twist or collapse it. Tries some solid thumps on bottom of boat to no avail. Rapped it pretty good afraid to break it. Any ideas? Some oil? Heat?

Ice. Heat expands(tighter), cold shrinks.

take the reel off if you really get to tapping, might break the reel seat. been there done that. I have a TI that is stuck again. Got it loose once by freezing. like the rods tho.

Its the other way around heat shrinks and cold expands.

No heat does expand...cold contracts...think of a balloon when it gets cold it gets smaller...gonna try ice

NO!

Don't let this issue get derailed in confusion. There is no question that when a material is heated the kinetic energy increases the atoms jimmy around faster and fill more space. The material expands. When cooled, atoms move less and fill less space.

There are situations where this doesn't appear to be the case, though it still is, but graphite rods are not one of them.

(Unless u got a blob of ice stuck in there)

(eg wood will expand when warmed, but if it is warmed to the point where the moisture in it evaporates, the wood will then appear to have contracted or shrunk.)

never been a fan of telescoping rods but might try some pro long or w d 40 spray it let it set for a hour or so then try to tap it down again. and as for heat or ice. im a welder heat will expend ice will make it smaller .that's with steel for fishing rods not sure wether the ice would work or not

Ice and penetrating oil did the trick with a bit of hard tapping

Really? Maybe you're confused from that time you left a beer in the freezer?

Water expands when cold, air contracts. Put a balloon in the freezer and it will shrink. Put a bottle of water in the freezer and it will bust.

Water will also expand when heated, the maximum density of water is around 277 kelvin (39 Fahrenheit), if heated more it will expand

I've had the same trouble with a 2 piece rod and in the summer I'd put the garden hose on the rod and it would pull apart easy.
