I am moving to Little Falls from Grand Rapids for a new job. Anybody have any info on the area? I am aware of the lakes with muskies that are within driving distance, but am sort of wondering about the river and if there are any bait shops around that carry big suckers. Also, if anyone has any general info about the town (tomorrow will be my first time visiting), that would be great! Feel free to PM me, as I don't always throw around a lot of info in plain sight either

Congrats! I've been trying to move back to central MN for quite a while.

Not sure if they carry bait, but check the Lincoln Oasis off Hwy 10 by Fish Trap / Sham. /Alex.

Thanks! Went down there yesterday and found a house to rent. Looks like it's gonna work out pretty well. Never thought I would move south though Big change.

Black and White Cafe in Little Falls has awesome food! The river near Camp Ripley is supposed to have excellent Musky Fishing, but I've never tried it myself so only know what I've heard. Alexander is a solid lake. You are also about 45-60 minutes from the Alexandria area which offers several lakes.

Thanks brad! Funny, I was down there the other day and everyone I talked to about muskies was really butt-hurt about them being stocked in the lakes. They all claim the walleye fishing has gone way downhill since then. Funny...

PM me any time you need to get out, I am a fellow GR guy and fish these lakes weekly. I live between Brainerd and Little Falls, but do not fish the river because I have a glass boat and the river is full of sunken treasure.

There seems to be a lot of that mindset around there. It's been getting somewhat better in the Alexandria area, but what can you do? Alexander is a solid post Turnover option, I know some members of the North Metro Chapter have done well up there the last few years. Go get'em!

You've got a lot of options from LF:

Alex/Sham are about 20 miles - Alexander gets pounded and the milfoil is pretty bad but there are definitely fish to be had there, I wouldn't drive past Alex to get to Shamineau
Mille Lacs is 45 miles to Vineland Bay - If you feel like spending time chasing a giant, you have the option
Miltona is 50 miles - Haven't spent much time on Miltona but from my experience there it's a good lake but also gets pressure
Mississippi is full of options. North of town, the Crow Wing Park area is pretty popular and there is another access by Fort Ripley, and probably others I'm unaware of. This section is shallow and I wouldn't put a nice boat in here. On the south end of town there is an access by Lindbergh State Park and I've fished from there quite a bit. South from the access fishes pretty much like a lake all the way down to Blanchard Dam; slow current, deep, some good weed spots. North from the access you can go all the way up to the dam in little falls. This section is shallow and in low water I wouldn't take a nice boat there unless you really know it. It's fun though with a lot of good rock spots and fast water current breaks.
If you have a full day or weekend and want to explore then the south end of Leech/Longville area is only about 90 miles away.

Thanks guys! Sounds like a pretty good place to be. I also have a glass boat, so I will be careful about where I put in on the river.

Shamineau has been good to me, I used to stop there on the way north and never got skunked there. It's very clear so low light and after dark.
