| We've all had them. What are some of those that you've seen or done yourself? I'll refrain from naming names, as many of these folks frequent these forums...
1. "what the ---?! Hey, check my safety chains and my winch!!" Yeah, you're good! "must be frozen to the bunks from yesterday. It IS pretty cold!!" "you took the straps off, right?" "If I did, somebody stole em!!" LMAO after that...
2. "What are they DOING? Looks like they can't get up on plane... Now they're heading back. "YOU GUYS ALL RIGHT??" "we forgot the %$%& DRAIN PLUG!!"
3. "I've only fished this lake once, but you might want to slow up. I think there's a bar that comes out pretty far off the left side of this island." *CRUNNNCH!* "FOUND IT!!!"
4. *WHAM!!!* "what the F---" Did you just hit that rock bar?? "no, I'm not even close to it." (looking into water) "You want your transom saver?"
5. Tripped over my own feet and fell on my ass stepping up onto the front deck for a picture. Threw the fish across the boat in the process.
6. Watched a buddy knock a rod in the lake going for the net, and then fall over the side of the boat reaching for the rod instead of just netting it...
7. *WHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR putt putt putt kachunk!* Crap. I think we're out of gas. How much did you put in? "full tank." When was that? "Uhhh... a few months ago!"
8. "Finally got a rope for my boat." Dumps boat, I grab rope, *SNAP* Dude, there goes your boat. Where'd ya get that rope anyway?"
9. "I think my trolling motor is busted." "You mean it's not supposed to be on fire?"
10. *cast* SPLASH!! "you're not supposed to throw the rod in the lake, only the lure..."

Ka Splash.
Why are we drifting, did you clip the line to it?
Was I supposed to?
Awwwf---. You gotta be sh-----g me, right?
I think the name calling after the act is just as funny as the act itself sometimes.

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Strained some serious muscles netting a 44" fish for Howie Meyer - tail first. Promised Howie I would never, ever, ever, net another fish without his go ahead. LOL I think he was both peeed & amazed!
Running up on an unmarked rock reef @ ~ 4mph on Cedar Lake - took some doing to get off that one!
Fishing offshore of Grand Isle LA with a friend from Baton Rouge -> on the oil rig's ~10 miles out w/o his Lorain unit. I look up and can only see ~ 1/2 mile around us, oil rigs are disappearing - major fog bank and storm rolling through and sun is setting. It was an interesting adventure, we just headed straight north using the compass, encountered a shallow spot or two, and found shelter from the storm behind a sea wall and anchored. We were only about five miles off west from the entrance to Grand Isle, but we listened to other boats calling the coast guard for help all night long. Spent the night casting & catching fish behind that seawall and watching plankton glow as the lures came through the water. Went in, had breakfast & went back out on the rig's - your arm's ache at the end of day from cranking in those saltwater critter's, I sat my rod down ~ 3:00PM and told John I was done! My biggest on that trip was a 42" Cobia - talk about a fight!
There are other truly memorable moments, but you probably wouldn't believe them! LOL
Have fun!
Al

Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | Was fishing alone up on Lac Seul in 98. Was fishing a weed pocket in between two rock bars on the side of an island with the wind pounding into it. Thought for sure I'd catch a big one there and I did too, the boat on one of the rock bars. Started fishing the pocket on the up wind side and drifted across the pocket while casting using the trolling motor to push me back out away from the shore. All was going well until I got to the down wind side where the wind was stronger and the trolling motor didn't have enough power to keep me off the rock bar. Next thing I know I'm hung up on it. I pull the trolling motor out of the water tilted the big motor up and grabbed the canoe paddle to push myself off and I can't I'm solid grounded in about 1 foot of water and the waves are pounding the boat against the rocks and beating on the hull. No one around for miles and I could be sitting there for hours or even days before someone finds me.
It's cold out too. In the 50s in July and I'm bundled up in all the warm clothes I brought. So I figure the only way to get off the rock bar is to strip down and go over the side and push the boat off the rocks. So I stripped down to my shorts put my life jacket back on and over the side I go. With my weight out of the boat and a little pushing the boat pops free and the wind grabs it again and pushes it fast out to sea and in a last desperate lung I grab the boat and hang on to it as we drift quickly out into deep water. I DON'T SWIM! So I'm hanging on to the side of the boat for all I'm worth, freezing and somehow I have to climb back into the boat because as fast as I'm drifting it could take a long time to drift across the bay to a shallow area where I could climb in again. I'm in serious trouble here. I try and throw a leg up on the side of the boat but can't do it. Finally I work my way down the side of the boat to the back and am able to pull myself up into the boat and out of the water. I'm soaked and freezing. Dry off the best I can and get dressed again and head back to camp. Thanking God that my boat was not beat to pieces on the rocks and I hadn't drowned, or froze to death. That was a scary situation.

| Was on LOTW with my nice St Croix and newer reel, new power pro, all set for the trip. I cast and get a jerking backlash, losing the rod from my grip. It sinks and I can't grab the handle, watch it sink. Next day my friend and I think we can get it and he snags it up with a spoon.
Another LOTW story: I'm 20, my cousin 19. We never musky fished, but had an uncle that invited us up. He gives us he little mirrocraft to use for the day so we get to our spot. Put the trolling motor in and the prop falls off and sinks. "what the..." Oops. "Yeah, sorry, but we lost your prop. It just fell in and sank."
On LOTW on a windy day, Monument Bay. In friends Ranger. Can't get it started. "think that gas tank is empty." "Why didn't you switch it before." Out of the boat with shorts on, standing in rocks, pushing away from the exposed rocks. Got her going, no problems. I think was the same day waves were coming over the bow back to camp. May have also lost a 25lber at boatside now that I think of it.

Location: WI | Get to the boat landing, take the straps off & back the boat & trailer into the water. Try to push boat off of trailer, it won't move. After a minute I look around to see if anybody is watching. No witnesses. Pull the boat out of the water & remove the transom saver. Works ALOT better that way.
