Posts: 295 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | John and Loie Laimon and the gang from Smokey's will be hosting the Three Charlies Muskie Invitational on Saturday Oct. 12 on Pewaukee Lake. $150 dollar entry fee per team or two.
Payouts with a full field of 50 boats will be $2500 for 1st, $1000 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd.
Rules meeting will be held the morning of the tournament at 7:00 A.M. at Smokey’s Muskie Shop. Ease out at 8:00 A.M. Three lines per boat/team allowed, with a maximum of one being live bait. This will be a non-transport tournament with judge boats. When a team has measured two muskies, they will be done fishing for the tournament. Awards ceremony will be held at Smokey’s Muskie Shop at 4:oo PM.
This tournament was created to honor the legacy of the “Three Charlies” and is unlike others in that benefits will go directly back to the resource, through restocking. Although it is competition, participants should understand the purpose and conduct themselves appropriately. It will be a great opportunity to enjoy a day on the water, while ensuring that the resource is there for years to come.
All entries must should be dropped of at the Musky Shop or mailed to the following address.
Smokey’s Bait Shop
Attn.: Three Charlies
129 Park Ave.
Pewaukee, WI 53072
Entry must include $150 along with Name, Address, Tel. # and Signature of each participant. I'm going to try to attach the tournament sign-up here as well. Ease out order will be based on the order in which teams sign up.
If you have any questions post here, or contact tournament director John Laimon @

Posts: 295 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | Muskies must be 34.5 inches or larger and will be measured, by a judge boat, to the nearest 1/4”. One point will be awarded for each inch. (Ex. 40.75 points would be awarded for a 40 3/4” fish.)
Tournament hours will be from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. |

| Stinging more than a little over not making the PMTT finals that will be happening that day, but having this really nice event right near by will make it easier to bear. Just picked up the brochure at Smokey's Musky Shop this morning...see you there! |

Location: SE Wisconsin | I don't understand the 34.5" rule. I also thought it was the "Two Charlies" tourney, but I guess I missed the boat on that one, too. |

Posts: 295 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | The 34.5" rule was put in place when the size limit was 34". The thought behind it was to help people avoid holding onto undersized fish with the hope that they would stretch to 34". It was never changed.
The 3rd Charlie was added by John in memory of their dog. The other two Charlies are John and Loie's fathers.
Remember that this is John's tournament. If you know John, you know that what he does and says doesn't always make sense to everybody or anybody else. |

Posts: 295 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | You are able to troll as long as you abide by the three rod limit. I don't think any of last year's fish were caught trolling. |

| Asked about the boat count today at Smokeys, he gave me his best guess of about 10-12 boats but this could be off. I am curious about the count as well. I will be taking part in this event, hoping for more teams to register. |

| I wouldn't get discouraged by the pre-signup count. I'm coming to fish and plan to sign and pay Saturday morning when I get there. My gut tells me that's how most of the guys are going to do it and I think the numbers are going to make for a great tournament. |

This 52" was caught this past Saturday. It's the second 52" caught in the last week!

Posts: 295 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | Yesterday's tournament was a big success; with 25 boats participating.
The weather looked prime as the boats took off, but the muskies didn't cooperate as well as expected.
There were only 4 fish registered ranging from 37 to 40.25.
1st 40.25" Kirby Beauhinger & John Callahan
2nd 38.5" Chris Ceccato & Ryan Buth
3rd 37.5" Dave Kawlewski & Tom Perdzock
Thanks again to everyone that participated! |

| Just a great event. Thanks to everyone who helped put it on!
Sorry I didn't get in after the event, but after being blanked by the tournament, I had to stay out longer to try to get the net wet. Unfortunately, it was not in the cards.
