While nothing is foolproof, the method I use is to take about an inch of 1/4 inch automotive fuel tubing and from one end, cut it to center in four places equally spaced. Then place the cut end toward the rod tip on/over the end of your line and then put a bead on the line to keep the tubing from sliding down over the knot after it is tied to the leader. Works pretty good. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | you can take a 2 or 3 inch piece of plastic tubing and put about 4 slits for about half its length bend these outward and put on your line ahead of your leader. Some use a treble with the points and barbs cut off but I have seen these tangle in nets and pierce hands |

nothing - not an issue where I troll.
Well that's extremely helpful and relevant advice.
I like to use a chunk of single strand that I use for leaders (usually 174-220lb) and bend it into a claw like shape around the line. I've seen Pete Maina do the same thing on an episode of the Next Bite. |

| I'm from out East and troll a ton. I use a large sized barrel swivel at the top of my long fluoro leader...nothing else. I think it's a size 6 or 7 Sampo. Tilt your rod holders so at least the last 6-12 inches or so of your rod tip is under the water. That way floating weeds collect on the rod instead of running down the line to your lure. If the weeds do run down the line, they will collect on the barrel swivel and your lure will stay clean. If things are really bad with suspended weeds or grass, you can add a treble hook with the points cut off to your barrel swivel at the top of your leader, but that's usually not necessary. Check your lines often or as you see lots of weeds building up on your rods. Taking a bait out of the water or checking lines isn't bad either. We often get hits on other rods while we are at the back of the boat checking lines for weeds.
This will work for you. Chautauqua Lake in NY has to be the worst for floating weeds and it works there. |

Location: oswego, il | I have tried alot of what is used above. It works on most weeds but nothing seems to work in the eel grass that grows on the flats on lsc and tippicanoe for example. When that stuff is chopped up and floating around you can collect some of it but it works its way past rod tips, clips, tubing, swivels and planet boards direct to your lure in a hurry. |

| I like the idea of the weedwacker line but am not sure how to do this since I am new to trolling. Where do I tie the 6" piece? What will this look like when I'm done?
Thanks |

| I use 3" bead chain on both ends of my trolling leaders. The top one helps with some weeds, but some always get through. |

| all you need is 2" of fresh, fat rubberband. Granny knot it a foot or three above where your line ties to the leader. Troll with the top 3rd of your rod under water, most weeds that would have run down the line will be caught on the rod, just shake them off now and then. But I wouldn't troll knowing my gear was going to foul up over and over. Way too much downtime. |

| take 6 inches weedwacker line. tie a knot. thru the open loop attach to your mainline swivel. attach 5ft leader. that allows weeds to end at the ww line. the 2 inches on each side of the loop sheds weeds.

| We have a special line weight that keeps the weeds off you lures and makes you lure dive a little deep without letting more line out. Fishing Green Bay if you don't have some kind of weed guard you won't catch fish.

| 1 1/4 oz keel weight on a bead chain..when its real bad I use two hooked end to end..stops pretty much everything |

Location: syracuse indiana | well I always run most of my rods down so the rod gets a lot of the top weeds and then on the 3 foot leader I put a extra large paper clip on the front of the leader. that really helps a lot for weed collection |
