| Hey guys. I have spent a lot of time this summer learning some area lakes around my cabin in Eagle River. I've been catching a lot of smaller to mid size fish but nothing that impressive. I'll be starting up college and will have limited time to fish but I'd like to spend some time looking for some bigger fish. I don't really have the money to hire a guide but I'd love to hear some advice from you guys. I was thinking that North Twin may be a good place to try and it's pretty close to my place.
I don't have a lot of experience fishing in "big fish" water but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Location: Contrarian Island | LDF is quite a hike from Eagle River... closer to home Sleds right, Long and the the Twins hold some monsters... big fish can come out of sucker based lakes but it seems more true giants come from lakes w deep water and ciscoes.. figure out which ones those are and have at it.

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Some good suggestions thus far. Vilas holds lots of waters with “giants”, but the hard part is getting them to eat and to the net. My suggestion would be do your homework, pick a lake that fits your style, and spend time on it. What I mean by pick a lake that fits your style is if you like to fish suckers make sure you pick one that tends to have a strong sucker bite as not every lake has a strong sucker bite in the fall. If you like shallower water choose accordingly. Once you choose a lake I would spend time on it prior to the Fall and learn it well. Then on your trip spend your whole trip on the lake and work it over well at all depths until you find a pattern.

Location: Wisconsin | I agree LDF is a hike and pretty tough to fish but just another option if you want a true "giant" |

| If you are up for a little drive and will drop $ on a Michigan license, Thousand Island has huge fish in it. |

| Great advice guys. Thanks a lot! I've scouted North Twin and Long Lake and will definitely be back during the fall. I'll probably try to work the mid lake basin and steep shorelines on Long with a combo of plastics, cranks, and suckers and work the various bars on Twin.
At some point I'd like to give LDF a try but I probably wont get to it this year due to the drive.
Thanks for all the help! |
